Help APPS on SD card swap missing

My wifes HTC EVO started acting up so we sent it back to Best Buy so they could turn it in and replace it with another HTC EVO. My wife asked them if they could save the apps to the SD card and they said yes. They finished what they needed to do and then showed us the phone to show the android icons in place where the app icons used to be to show it was on the sd card that was just removed. We received the new phone today and put the old sd card in and cannot find the apps. I downloaded both "APP 2 SD" and "ASTRO" but neither two can find my apps on the sd card. I tried downloading one of the wifes old apps to see if it would start off where she left it and it did not. Also her texts did not save, dunno if those could be or not. Any clear answers would be much appretiated.

P.S. If you do answer please try to explain as well as possible, I am not very phone tech savy.

Welcome chucky!!
There is no way, unless being rooted, that the entire app can be saved to the sd card.
Even with the "move app to sd" option, does not move the entire app. It will move part of it and the rest will be on the phones internal memory.
When you use the "move to sd" option, part of the app goes to the ".android_secure" folder on the sd card. And even at that, only part of it is there.

The only way to get her apps back is to redownload them. The apps that were downloaded to her phone before, should be saved on her google account. And even at that, the data for the apps (her settings, etc) will not be restore when the app is redownloaded. It will be as if the app is a fresh download.
There is an app called "My backup Pro" that can save app data but if they didn't utilize that app, or something similar to do so, then they are gone.

As far as her texts, if the tech did not use an app to save them, they are gone also.

I hope I am clear enough, but if not, just tell me and I will try to help you out:)
