How can one put apps on the phone's SD card using a rooted hero? Is it a complicated process? Is there a decent guide that explains how to do it?

Nandroid Backup
Wipe your SD card (backup your stuff on a computer or something)
Boot to recovery
partition SD card--accept the default sizes for swap and the other thing (I doubled mine because I have an 8gb card, but it apparently doesn't need to be any bigger)
After partitioning, select "upgrade ext2 to ext3"
and that should do it. I don't think you actually have to do the last step. You will probably have to reinstall most of your apps to get them to work properly.
