Apps to help car stereo read music player?

I have a Droid 1 and this JVC aftermarket headunit:

When I plug the Droid in via USB to play music, it doesn't really work too well. It doesn't read the files right. Does anyone else have this problem? Is there an app to help the stereo read the music files on my phone?

Clarify what you mean by "doesn't read the files right".

Have you verified that your files meet the requirements listed in the manual for the JVC head unit?

It will play a random notification alert, ie- "Facebook Pop," then it will play the same three songs, display it as some weird code "224G-223," and I can't navigate to my real albums. No I haven't read the manual. It works fine with my iPod, and it's the same songs that I dragged out of iTunes onto my Droid.
