Apps you actually use OFTEN on your Incredible

The apps i use everyday are calculator, the weather channel, browser, handcent, default mail and music, and facebook

  • WordPress - Best blogger tool
  • SoundHound - Cleaner interface than Shazam, but does limit to only 5 IDs a month (unlimited if u type in song)
  • DropBox - Love this. Quick access to files that I don't have to store on my phone. 2GB free storage!
  • YellowBook - Big Yelper here, but YellowBook so much better than Yelp app
  • Astrid Tasks - Took a week to find an efficient note/task app (wish Gmail calendar app included Google tasks). Seems most note apps were cluttered looking or not efficient. This one is extremely functional once u dive into the details and clean looking
  • Fandango - Seems more users prefer Movies by Flixster, but I like the clean organized interface of Fandango

Since I do not have my phone yet, I cannot look up these Apps yet to see if I want them or even understand what they do. Could someone explain why someone would need the following apps:

Handcent
AppBrain
Dolphin <-- doesn't a browser come with the phone?
Gmail Notifier <-- doesn't the phone already notify you of new mail messages?
Swype

Thanks in advance. I am just trying to understand why these apps are important so that I can snatch them on the phone as soon as possible.

AppBrain uses appbrain.com to sync/set apps to dl from your PC. (Can even start queuing apps before you get your phone.)
Handcent is a good looking alternative texting app
Dolphin HD is just an alternative browser that has visible tabs. I personally stick to the stock browser.
Gmail Notifier Not sure why anyone needs this personally, stock works fine. I do use Gmail Unread Count to show the number of msgs on the actual icon though.
Swype is an alternative to 'peck' typing. You slide your finger from key to key to make the words. Can speed up typing a ton once you get use to it. You can find some good videos showing how it works on youtube.

SekOn,

Thanks so much for the explainations. Definitely helps a lot and gives me something to consider.

Advanced Task Killer
Fail.

Subject of wrong killings leading to bad battery times. You don't need ATK, this isn't a WINMO phone, UGH.

Lot's of cases here where people though they were doing good, but programs relied on the underlying IDLE processes.

Google Voice
Weather Channel
Dropbox
Slacker
XM/ Sirius App
Score Mobile
Astrid
Slingplayer (yeah I know it's only a day old but I used to use it on previous phones all the time on my way into to work... Sports Center!)

My short list:

Chomp SMS
Dolphin Browser HD
Twitter (official)
7Online
AppBrain
MixZing Player
Shazam
Bible
Prayers to Share
Open Sudoku
Frozen Bubble
Google Maps
Android System
Flikie Wallpaper HD

There are other apps on my Incredible, but only as needed.
