I have a Desire rooted and running Leedroid 2.3D S-On and RA recovery.

I have an 8gb card and want to install apps2sd. I have d/l'd gparted, created a usb boot drive, but am getting confused as to the steps after reading so many diff threads. I have backed up my sd card to pc but I am not sure of:

a) how to used gparted to create the partitions. and the relevant sizes of the partitions
b) once this is created is the next step to install the leedroid apps2sd version?
c) how do I then restore everything from the pc backup

Sorry but only a week in and if anything probably guilty of reading too much. This time last week I was an android virgin and now we have a blade qnd a desire rooted, this one is giving me migraines tho lol

I ran gparted an created a 512mb ext 3 and the remainder fat 32 (approx 7gb as its a 8gb card) It did it all.

When I rebooted the phone said the card needed formatting which I did. it now shows in windows as 2.81 used (after i put my files back on) 4.78 free which is a total of 7.59gb.

Is this right, is it including the 512mb ext? I didnt think windows could see that? Or has formatting if F*** it up?

Windows can't see it, you'll have to go into gparted again to confirm it.

Did it again and it did the same thing. It said space was unallocated each time?

So I went back in again except this time once it said it had done it I ran the /partition/format command to make the fat32 and ext 3 tables.

Booted back into windows and lo, I now only have 7.1gb visible. At last lol.

Thanks for your help

The bugger is I am waiting for a new 16gb kingston card so will have to do it again. But I suppose thats half the fun :)

Once you get the new card, take a nandroid backuop and back up SD FAT32 contents to windows. Swap card, boot into recovery and partition. Copy data back and restore nandroid.

Grrrrr

Did nandroid and then went to install zip from sd - shock no zip file there?

checked sd card on phone and it was all garbage?
Ran gparted again and this time it just stuck scanning card.

I have rebooted and formatted card in windows and am putting stuff back on.

The strange thing was - when it read it on the phone through Astro everything was corrupted, yet in windows it all appears fine?

I knew it wasnt easy lol. Just hope this card hasnt given up the ghost - its a brand new 8gb Kingston

No it wont have, but your taking an existing fat32 partition and squeezing it into a smaller space. I always recommend reformatting it at that point in gparted,

formatted in windows - added sd card contents from pc.

went into Astro and it won't me let me see everything, just shows 5 directories??

...and you definitely put more than 5 directories back on there? Does it show them on PC still?

Yes over 15 directories plus flash zips

went back into gparted and reset partitions. 7gb FAT 32 and 600mb EXT3. rebooted back to gparted and checked - yep all good.

Booted into windows - restored sd contents including leedroid a2sd zip (MD5 checked)

Went back to recovery mode - backup - wipe and then flash from sd - again no zip

Went back to windows and everything is there on card and viewable but to try to view using astro manager and it says it is full of garbage. Sd storage on phone shows 2.6gb used which is about right for what I have transferred. Yet I can't access any of it and RA recovery just doesn't see it

WTF???

No idea. What if you download and access through Estrongs instead of astro?

Or even clear cache on Astro?

cleared cache on astro and tried estrongs, both just show crap on card

Am going to fdisk card and start again lol but have just nipped out and picked up a 4gb sandisk just in case. Just wish the 16gb had turned up

no pc doesnt ask to scan for errors - it reads it fine. even to the point of being able to open mp3's pics etc.

There are just thousands of files, no directories other and android and nandroid, but I dont trust the backup in there enough to use lol. Its in the middle of a full format at mo.

Strange thing was I deleted the partition in gpart and created new partitions. Yet when I went back to windows it still showed files on card....'music from x-files softly plays in background'

I gave up in the end. The brand new 4gb sandisk did exactly the same.

ran Gpart create Fat32 and Ext 3. Confirmed it by going back into gpart. The only difference was that with the 4gb when I switched the phone on it said "preparing SDcard' then said 'making read only'

So am giving up until the 16gb arrives next week as I am taking wife away for weekend and need the phone.

Thanks guys for the help and I wil post back next week with updates on the 16gb.
