Root Apps2SD - confused

No_u

Android Enthusiast
Okay, so I have Oxygen 2.0.1 which was supposed to have Apps2SD+ itself. That didn't seem to be the case so I flashed DarkTremor's script on my phone.

The problem is, whenever I install something it still takes up way too much space, which shouldn't be necessary since I have 1 GB EXT2 for that.. For example, Real Football 11 takes up about 15 MB on my internal memory, but it's 25 MB total. Isn't this method supposed to move all of the app's data too?

I have cache2sd on,

EDIT: Using Root explorer, I saw that on my internal memory, in the folder Data, then again to Data, there is a LOT of information. I'm guessing the actual app data isn't moved somehow..?

I might be wrong, but apps2sd doesn't move the data at all - that would be 'data2sd' which I think is also given a mentch in SURoots FAQ.

Apps2SD just moves the app itself (apk) and possibly the cache (not sure on last bit)....

had same trouble when I tried Oxygen last week. Didn't move stuff to sdcard. Didn't find a solution to the problem so returned to GV.

Well I just moved to Oxygen since SUroot was using it so it seemed like a great option. I like the stock Android a lot, and it seems my battery lasts longer now. Guess I can move to GV 1.4 like everyone else -.-

SUroot aint using oxygen bro his using gv 1.4

I've tried Oxygen and came back to GingerVillain.
Oxygen doesn't support A2SD natively, and if you have an EXT partition, then it is useless.
The way to make A2SD work in Oxygen is to re-format you SD card with FAT32 and then flash a special Oxygen HBOOT.

What???

Hboot is nothing to do with a2sd and you can just flash a2sd. No reformatting required

This is the idea of Oxygen's version of A2SD:

Ext3 partition removal

With the new OxygeN HBOOT their is no longer a need for ext3 (in fact its slower), So to remove it you will need to download something like Gparted to manage the partition tables on your sdcard.

Delete the ext3 partition and completely reformat the card to fat32

Then install the new Oxygen HBOOT,
Then wipe cache's /all,
Then install OxygeN.

I'm not sure how much different is this from the standard ext3, but I didn't want to get into the hassle of reformatting my SD card. The thing is the other ROMs I've tried (like MIUI and Redux), both worked nicely with ext3.

thats because oxygen hboot has a massive data partition but for people who have s-on its not an option therefore legacy a2sd is still there

you are confusing matters

LOL. Where did I miss that? :)
I was using that ROM, but the internal memory was going down. What was the (old) procedure (S-ON) to enable A2SD script in Oxygen?

The old proceedure for a2sd is the same proceedure. You have an ext partition.

You can still use a2sd with the oxygen hboot, so no need to do anything.

Im not a fan of alpharev hboots. You cant change anything. Yes they optimise system and data but often at the expense of the cache partition.

Oxygen has 10 so its not as bad as CM7, but its still not enough IMO.

check my post above
I get it now (huh, why the developer didn't include this clearly in the opening post?)...:o

Still, if we don't use this a2sd script (which is what the developer is suggesting), we end up reformatting the SD card back to full FAT32 and with flashing Hboot...

You dont even have to format the partition out. I'd leave it there just incase you decide you want another rom, cause you'll just have to redo it. It doesnt cause harm for it to be there

Hmm, you are right, I could leave ext3 as it is and lose that space temporary.

Would the flashing of alpharev Hboot need to be "undone", if I decide to move away from Oxygen to GV?

Well I have about 30 apps installed I think? And it went down from 120 MB to about 66 MB. Guess it's not that big :p
