Archive.org

Hi guys why is it that archive.org will not play on the samsung like it does on the iPhone no this is not a troll post

It's simply I have both the iPhone and the samsung mini and the iPhone plays the player well for arceve org through quick time but the samsung doesn't even get any reaction

Also I found the same with Curica website videos play on iPhone through safari but not on the Samsung

Why is android such a pain this is why I keep having to go back to the iPhone even though I hate the iPhone

Can anyone explain

I can upload a video of this if you want

Any way please help its bull this happening on android 2.2.

It's playing just fine on my Galaxy Nexus with Chrome browser.
Which browser are you using? I'm happy to post a screenshot as well.
Also, welcome to the forums!

That's why I get pissed at android

Ok thanks for that but your using chrome what do I do now without chrome you device is not comparable bull carp from google read my post above this one

Try the video from curica

Also dude have you tried xbmc on you nexus and where did you get your nexus and for how much post a link

When is xbmc on play store?

Can't get any videos from Archive.org to play on either Chrome or stock ICS browsers.
Can't say I know what XMBC is, sorry.
Got my Nexus through Verizon back in September. You can get an unlocked one (GSM) through Google for $349, great deal.

So that means stay with the iPhone as it plays everything right? This is the great failure on android I feel,it should be consistent on all phone with all phones with the same firmware instead of it bieng only certain phones get jelly bean or ics so fourth

Also I also think it should be beating the iPhone when playing things such a video from the above site or even audio this is the reason why I will be selling my android phone and keeping the iPhone as it seems to give way less problems and seem to cope well with all websites as well as the QuickTime player on iPhone plays anything you throw at it.

I wish android good luck but I still think they are still way behind iPhone if you paying for example for a nexus phone it should play video from archive.org something which iPhone does flawlessly

Why is android still so far behind it does not justify paying that amount of money for a phone which can not hardly handle certain things like video playing etc etc

Good luck android but I feel it's too far behind the times

Would you pay

Got videos playing fine on my Nexus 7 using Firefox browser.
Have you tried that browser? Being on Froyo, you should have Flash support.

Edit: playing fine on my GNex as well.

Hi great so it can handle it good news looks like I have to regrettably upgrade which I think is sad

But I don't have Firefox on froyo 2.2 market does not even display firefox or flash same thing for both on market comes back with does not support device

That's my reason for the rant of having firmware across all devices the same

Thanks for testing things out dreadnutty did you get Curica video to play why is it that Firefox handles video and chrome won't on your device

Is there any chance your location is blocking the download? I'm really not familiar with the Mini. Have you had problems with any other apps? You could also try another browser like Dolphin HD, Opera or Boat and see if those help.

Opera won't play videos nor does dolphin I don't know about any blocking I never heard of blocking

Did they lie about it supporting froyo firefox

Its the phone he is using, not an Android failure. The Galaxy Mini does not have a graphics chip, unlike the iPhone or the more powerful Android phones. Its basically a problem of using a cheaper Android device. This means no hardware decoding of videos for the OP.

For the record, the Galaxy Mini costs a fraction of what the 3GS costs, and the 3GS has the distinction of a former flagship, and should be considered to be near the level of the original Galaxy S. The original Galaxy S is in fact actually still better than a lot of the newer low end phones being released at the moment.

This is a common mistake of people, thinking that ANY Android is an iPhone equal, when the only iPhone comparable devices are the flagships themselves:

iPhone 3GS: Galaxy Ace
iPhone 4: Galaxy S
iPhone 4S: Galaxy SII
iPhone 5: Galaxy SIII

To put it bluntly, the hardware on the Mini isn't something that can be compared to a 3GS, its like comparing a an Altis to a LanEvo. Getting a Galaxy S on the other hand, something more comparable, would be akin to getting the right tool for the job to go up againt an Evo: an Impreza WRX.

That's besides the point

Why is Firefox not supported forgot the graphics chip aside why no Firefox support on 2.2 where's demand 5 or 4od on any high end android phone or tablet it's not there so really you can compare it to the ios and that's is an android fail what else do you call it android supposedly has flash then decides it will get pulled of all he old devices and no longer support it

Why no mention of nexus in your comparison table lol you then you suggest nexus is rubbish then and can't holdup to iPhone any of themiphone models

If you think galaxy s 3 is top end compared to iPhone 5 why won't tHey get jelly bean lol not so top end after all. If any of you do go for a android not me anytime soon get the nexus at least you will have jelly bean

So end of the day it is android fail around just putting my options across why is it iOS can achieve to get all updates to all phones no matter how much they cost which android fail to do

It is a android FAIL sorry to have to say

1. Firefox needing graphics chip support is besides the point. Its based on what the makers want. Instagram for example needs a graphics chip. This is because some things do need it. As an example, Skyrim needs a good graphics chip to run, and can't run properly on a netbook. A netbook as well usually does not have enough power to play a 1080p video because of lack of a powerful graphics chip.

2. Nexus S has the same hardware as the Galaxy S, and the Galaxy Nexus has the same hardware as the SII. So yes, they are high end. You don't expect me to list every single phone now, do you?

3. The Galaxy SIII will get JellyBean, Samsung already said so themselves, and the beta Galaxy SIII JellyBean ROMs are already out for testing for those who want to.

Bottom line here is, you are trying to compare your Galaxy Mini to an iPhone 3GS, which as I already said, is futile. The Galaxy Mini is in all ways an inferior phone to the 3GS. There is a reason why its cheaper. Same reason why an Altis is cheaper than a Lancer Evo, because it can't go as fast. Plain and simple. Would you bet on an Altis to win a race against a Lan Evo? No. It's really simple. Main fact is, why expect a the Galaxy Mini (which costs about less than 1/2 the price of a 3GS) to work as well as something that's twice as expensive? That simply does not happen.

We are talking here about the cheapest and weakest phone of Samsung Android lineup of 2010, against what is arguably the best phone of 2009. Its a no brainer which one is better and more equipped to handle modern apps.

Makers release low end Android phones for those who can't afford to buy the newer more powerful ones. Unlike Apple who just sells for those who can afford the more expensive devices.

And your point? Your just accounting for 2 phones out of million that get jellybean what about galaxy tab any sign of jellybean?

Why won't other android users get jelly bean? Why is apple consistent is getting the latest iOS across all devices why is android not

Why won't s2 get jellybean

For the same reason that the iP3gs won't get all new iOS features and the same reason that not all PCs could upgrade past Windows XP.

Not all hardware can support all upgrades.

Exactly not top end phones after all I'm sure he said s2 was a top phone well hardly it's not getting jellybean any time soon

I question myself galaxy s2 or iPhone 3GS I would go iPhone why it has latest software latest apps of which most apps are not even on the top end android phones that's just my point I feels needs to be put to makers of android

I'm not in any way a big fan of apple I think they are rubbish too but there constant platforms across all there phones is okay way to do things

The 3GS came out years ago I think before the s2 and s3 and nexus yet it has the same software as the iPhone 5

The SII is getting Jellybean actually. The beta ROMs from Samsung are also already out for testing AFAIK. Also, the 3GS won't be getting iOS 6, so why say Apple always gets the updates? Considering your Mini, it has a 600Mhz CPU with no GPU. Obviously not powerful enough to get the update.

As for the apps, its not Android's fault. Apple does not make the apps, neither does Google (Android). The developers feel that they should make apps for Apple first, before Android, because Apple's app store is older and well, the brand is well known. More recently app makers are making apps and releasing both Apple and Android at the same time. For example, Bad Piggies by Rovio was released for both platforms simultaneously.

If your choice is SII and 3GS, I'd go SII simply because its more powerful, and all the apps you want are compatible to it. If it was SII and 4S however, different story. These two phones are about as powerful as each other, and the only reason to go one way or another is if you prefer which OS over the other. But then again the apps you posted a while ago are all available on an SII as well.

It doesn't have 4od or demand 5. Post the pic and prove it

And it's say nexus has a hd screen might see what the s2 can do but Samsung take too long to update there phones if nexus has jellybean Samsung shouldmofmhad jellybean already let alone beta testing
