Root Archos 101

I have a rooted HTC Droid Eris running 2.1 I also have a new Archos 101 tablet that I am trying to tether via the Eris by Bluetooth or Wifi. I have tried everything I can think of to tether the Archos 101. I have installed Wireless Tether and Barnacle Wifi Tether, but neither work for the Archos, I also use Pdanet for my laptop but that doesn't work either. Does anyone have any information that could help in this situation? I have searched the internet over and over but have only found a few others that have the Eris with my same problem.. Thanks if anyone can help :)

Since your Eris has 2.1, these steps may help...
Note: you have to have 2.0.71 Froyo firmware or higher.

  1. Turn on the GPS.
  2. Select Settings->Wireless & Networks->Bluetooth Settings->Scan for devices
  3. The GPS should show up on the list - select it for pairing.
  4. Pair to the GPS like any Bluetooth device. It will prompt for a PIN code. If the docs don't say what to use for the PIN code, try 0000 or 1234 as suggested. If that doesn't work, experiment a bit.
  5. Upon pairing success, the GPS will be listed as "paired but not connected"
  6. Select Settings->Location & Security->Select a Bluetooth GPS
  7. Select the GPS which you previously paired with.
  8. GPS data should now be available via the GPS Location Provider in Android. If the GPS hasn't locked on the satellites yet, the data will not begin to flow until then. (If it can't see the sky, it may never get a signal lock. Some GPSs are much better than others at this.)
  9. Run an app like "GPS Status" if you'd like to verify. Or when you're confident it will work, just start apps that use the GPS at this point.

If you disconnect the Bluetooth connection, some or all mobile bluetooth GPSs may power themselves down to save battery. While you won't have to pair with the device again as long as they know each other, you may need to explicitly do a Bluetooth scan to re-establish the connection later.
The Bluetooth GPS feature was announced with the 2.0.54 firmware initial Froyo release. However, it did not seem to work until the 2.0.71 update.

Above instructions from wiki.archosfan.com Gen8 Bluetooth GPS faq.

Hope it helps..

Thanks for your help but unfortunately my Eris cannot find the GPS on bluetooth for some reason so I am still at a standstill until we can figure out why it does not recognize the GPS. Any other suggestions would be appreciated!

I've been searching high and low - and have tried just about everything...

I've had NO luck tethering my Eris to my Archos 70it for internet access.

This included searching all the forums, and trying various things. I just think we are out of luck.

I have wireless tether on my Eris. It works like a hotspot. I have a netbook. I open the wireless setting scan for networks, and it shows the AndroidTether. I also have a Zenithink tablet. The tablet doesn't see the Eris' hotspot. Thats strange.

not quite sure about this but the wifi of the tablet may operate on a different channel than normal devices and you may want to try changing the channel in the wifi tether app
