Help Are firmware updates safe?

TKR99

Lurker
Back again with a different phone to last time, so new question.

It's suggesting I do a firmware update but having had bad experiences with other devices in the past that died after I did this, I'm just wondering what the concensus is on doing this? I'm totally lost still on all the various aspects of Android :(

Info provided was:

Current firmware version : PDA:LPQ / PHONE:LP2 / CSC:LP2 (H3G)
Latest firmware version : PDA:LSW / PHONE:LS1 / CSC:LS5 (H3G)

The Android version is 4.0.3 - does that need updated too or is that what the above is wanting to update?

CSC code is 19100H3GLP2 if that's any help.

Thanks
TKR

There is always a risk updating firmware. However having said that 99.9% of times it is safe to do so. It appears you have copy & pasted the Kies notification for a firmware update. You are currently on 4.0.3 - Ice Cream Sandwich, it should now give you 4.1.2 - Jelly Bean. Using Kies is safer than an OTA (Over The Air) update, I would go for it.
