Root Are Gingerbread Rom's actually better?

What are people's opinions on this? Froyo (with Sense or AOSP) has a lot of well regarded Roms (Myn, Koni, MikFroyo etc) to suit your taste of customizability or speed. I have a friend running CM7 and I really don't see much difference apart from the GB themed launcher/widgets which some other Rom's have anyway.

So this question I think is more about GB specific things such as the power management, text selection, contacts, launcher etc. Do these make a real difference?

Check this out.

I am aware of GB features, but how do they work in practice compared to the optimized Froyo rom's. e.g. is it faster? better task management?

This is not about Froyo vs GB, but the rom.

I just touched on this in a current CM7 thread -- when I recently flashed CM7 rc2 (my first AOSP and only Gingerbread ROM), I wasn't very impressed with the whole Gingerbread thing. Don't get me wrong -- CM7 is an incredible ROM, but I just didn't see any real world speed or feature benefits over Myn's Warm 2.2 RLS5. Once a Gingerbread ROM with the new Sense UI is released, I'll probably transition to it anyway, but it won't be because I find anything blatantly lacking with Froyo.

As usual, I realize that others' experiences and opinions may vary. Everyone should feel free to educate me on whatever it is I'm missing.
