Root are there any ROMs out or being developed with multi-touch?

I'm going to lean towards no, but I can't say for sure. I thought I saw something in our kernel for it, but if it was available, it seems like something that Huawei would want to include as a selling point.

From my experience, there seems to be 6 sets of Huawei Ascends. What I mean is there are 2 different types of LCDs and 3 different touchscreens and they've been mix-mashed.

So in a way you could say this phone is slightly cheaper because it was likely built with spare parts from their higher end phones? Are all phones like that? I really thought specific parts were mass produced for a specific model. Though that does not mean they couldn't use any excess parts to build/help build a different model. Any idea?
 
That all depends on the vendor. I've seen the same thing done in laptops, where one batch of a particular model might have a single CCFL backlight, and another might have a dual CCFL backlight, and neither are compatible with the other because they use different inverters. Having different LCD's in the same model laptop is very commonplace as well. Basically, if you want better quality control, then expect to pay more for your product.

Hmmm. Interesting so maybe some of us could and some of couldn't, so they wouldn't be able to use it as a selling point. I need a clone so I could send him to work and I could spend the time working on my phone.:rolleyes:

I'd positively adore a clone of my own. It's weird but, I really do think each Ascend is different as he'd said. I've had zero problems with me. Others have had a ton. Though I suppose I'm the type who doesn't expect a gold mine from a coal factory. I see things for what they are meant to be, Assess them as such.

It might also explain why some people have problems installing Icarus. The OS has to figure out what hardware it actually has and gets caught in a loop trying to figure it out due to a missed signal.

This type of thing happens ALOT with Processors and Ram in particular. I know because I work with this in my Job.
**What happens is they get a batch of say processors that are to Run at say 1GHz, well btw: this is at the manufacturer level, not once they are sold already. Well, the main factor to that thing running at 1GHz is heat. SO say an entire batch runs thru Quality control testing and they are all failing at 750Ghz, any faster....failure.....

So, what happens-----They sell that entire batch as 500MHz Processors, the same goes for RAM. You can trust me when alot of people say, well just fan/etc. cool them better. But as I said, I am a Thermal Systems Design Engineer (Mechanicanical Engineer), and I'll just explain by saying that the heat is Generated deep inside the chip. Fans, water whatever is cooling from the outside, and it can't "Suck" the heat out of the middle of the chip fast enough. No matter how much cooling is done on the outter surface, the middle of the chip will overheat, there is no possible way to get the cooling to it in time.

So to get back on track. I would not doubt for a second that they use alot of parts like this, "Technically" they are new, but not up to original standard, But they are "GOOD ENOUGH"

Just a total wild guess, but it's done all the time, now as far as actually using left over spares. The only way I can see that happening is if they were able to buy 'lot sizes' large enough to produce a significant run of phones.

Just for their warranty and technical support alone, they want as much standardization as possible, so if someone was dumping a huge lot of this or that sure it's possible, otherwise, no way will they be buying a few of these here and some of those there....

Oh well that's my 2 cents, which is about what it's worth....

i would totally agree. i had gotten my first ascend and had to factory reset it cuz i had some problems while rooting it then i broke it got a new one and the new has had no problems what so ever. it runs alot faster. a few of my frends hav this phone as well and one in particular says his phone lags alot and gets stuck booting occasionally and is completely stock.

Me either I got one with almost no problems and I spent under 100 dollars for it out of the box ($80). I tend to usually end up with good electronics. It's the only area I get good luck in though! :P
 
Ya know, Sorry to break the rhythm there, BUT...I wanted to get back to the thread subject just for a second.

DOLPHIN HD BROWSER "CLAIMS" that regardless of the system, that it's app DOES support multi touch zooming, etc. I read that and though no $$%%^'in way...and sure enough, I have to double click the screen to get zoom, or use the little +/- at the bottom to zoom in and out.

Did anyone else notice Dolphin advertising this on their market page.

I JUST DOUBLE CHECKED....IT says "Multi-Touch Pinch Zoom"

I guess that just means if your system already supports it, then this won't interfere, but it really makes it look like your going to get it with the app.

Not to knock the app, I think I thing Dophin Browser HD is one of the best browsers out ther. It has that swipe type option just make forward or back arrows same as hitting a forward or back button (Which is a pain on the other browser with NO forward button., refresh swipe, you just touch the corner and can draw your little design that means whatever, nice feature)

Anyway,I just thought that them saying pinch zoom was crap since it dosn't work on the Ascend. You must have to have the option first...

OH well...any thoughts......Jef
 
X scope browser has the closest thing to pinch-zoom. In a way I like it better because you only use 1 finger. You just double tap the screen, then without lifting your finger, slide it diagonally up/down to zoom in and out. It's really cool when you get the hang of it. It's a good browser overall, really fast,cool features, just too many force closes.

If only they would make a browser with that and flash capabilities. I only see each browser having one or the other. X.x

You can still use the flash trick on skyfire while using another browser. I use x scope and when I click on a video, it asks me what I want to use for this action (youtube, skyfire, etc) then just choose which one you want. When the video is over, back out to where you were.

Wouldn't that cause a bit of lag between switching browsers? I know one time I needed stock for something and I was using Skyfire at the time, The lag of jumping from one to another was kinda off. Then again, I was running off Metro data. Which we all know is slower than cold molasses running up a hill in January.
