Root Are these 2 radios basically the same?

Brunny

Newbie
Decided to try Android Revolution. My current radio (12.65.60.29U_26.14.04.28_M) differs from the recommended radio (12.65.60.29_26.14.04.28_M) by just 1 letter!

Are these basically the same. Is it worth the bother to flash the radio?

Recommended radios are just that... recommended. I have never flashed a different radio from the stock one and not had problems. If you are worried about it, you can leave it for now and then look at flashing one after the ROM flash.

It is worth noting that, in order to flash a radio, you need to be ENG S-Off, not just Radio S-Off.

When you rooted, did you use the AAHK? If so, it doesn't (as far as I remember) give you ENG S-Off.

Thanks for the reassurance. I probably will just keep this radio then. I did use the AAHK though, so just in case I change my mind, how would I get ENG S-off?

how would I get ENG S-off?

Well, theres a tool that gets you your engineering hboot...but the guy took it off....

I would offer to send you the application that I had installed before , but DURX will indefinately say that this is a grey area etc ;) as I already asked him this...

There is a tool that can do it for you - click me

The process of radio flashing is relatively straight forward (from what I've read), but has the potential to brick your phone if it looses power whilst flashing. If you do decide to flash a radio, you should always ensure that the phone has plenty of power :)

Found a link with it on (per above)... so there's no grey area :p

I wasn't being funny... I couldn't give you it, as I did not have a copy!

just be careful,aS a bad hboot flash can brick your phone, even faster than a bad radio flash  just becasue youre using a tool, doesnt neccessarily make it 100% safe.

if you have radio s-off,you actually do not need to change the hboot to flash radios.

while you do need an eng hboot to use the fastboot flash command, you can install a radio just fine without if you do it in hboot,or run an ruu on your PC :)

I've always been told that you must have ENG S-Off to flash radios... guess you learn something every day :)

yup! jusrt pack up the radios with an android info text document from another ruu(if your s-off,it really doesnt even matter what text document you use) along with the radio and firmware, zip it up,rename PD98IMG and it will flash fine in hboot. just make sure to verify the md5 of the radio images first,if you pack it up yourself, and provide an md5 for the download if youre going to offer it to others.

place on sd card, boot to hboot, and it will flsah the firmware.

you can also use the oem rebootRUU and flash zip commands in fastboot to flash literally any PD98IMG. this is always how i do it,since it doesnt rely on proper sd card format, and proper file name like flashing it in hboot. its alwo faster becasue you dont have to move files on and off the sd card ;)

I just installed a ruu w/the same radio as the recommended one... But my baseband version says the one with the U like yours....

You are correct it does not.

AAHK has these options in the menu:

6 - Install your own Radio or "PD98IMG" style ROM
Obtain a COMPATIBLE Inspire/Desire HD Radio in RUU format. Name the zipfile rom.zip and place it in the PD98IMG directory.

CAUTION: Flashing a radio incorrectly or a wrong radio can result in perma-bricking your phone.

7 - Remove PD98IMG.zip from SDCard (after hbootPD98IMG Flash)
Run this after any hbootPD98IMG Flash

Have not tried it myself.
