Are we seriously calling this "The New HTC One"?

I think this is kind of a "dull" move by HTC. It just seems really illogical to not give this phone a separate name. Now it is difficult to call it the "HTC One 2" for obvious reasons, and the M8 name is just a project name...at least that's how the M7 was.

HTC was Tweeting #HTCOneUp...I don't necessarily like the "One Up", but it is better than "The New HTC One" and "HTC M8". For the longest time I was calling it the "mate" and people gave me crap for saying it that way.
 
I work at a store and we're selling this phone starting tomorrow, I can only imagine several people coming in like this

Customer: "Hi, I wanna get the HTC One"
Me: "Which one? the 2013 model or the 2014 model?"
Customer: "Uh idk, I thought there was only the HTC One"
Me: "Well theres 2 of them now, The New HTC One which recently came out, or the older HTC One"
Customer: "Uhh I just want the HTC One"
Me: "Great choices to choose from, which one would you like?"
 
This has been happening with a number of different products from a number of different manufacturers.

They want to create a brand.

Its easy to differentiate by using the year it came out.

In my opinion, HTC ONE (2014) is a better name something like Samsung Galaxy Prevail 4g LTE

I don't mind separating each model by year, but in retail it's a goddamn nightmare. Especially with older customers.

It took me 20 minutes to explain the differences between the iPhone 5C and 5S to an elderly gentleman last week. I made it beyond simple for him, and he still kept asking the same question over and over again, let alone he was getting confused as to which was one the 5C and which one was the 5S

I don't think there's any winning really. ;)

Either people get it, or they say they have "that galaxy" phone.

Part of me says the HTC ONE M8 with an Australian accent :vroam:
 
Brand recognition is one thing, but HTC screwed themselves by making their brand a number. At least Samsung can increment their line with the Galaxy S1, S2, S3, S4, S5, etc.. HTC is stuck calling their products the same thing every year or they will end up with something ridiculous like the HTC One Two Three 4G.
