Are you going to get the HTC M8 -Specs, carrier, discussion, and $$$DEALS$$$

Still waiting for my Sprint version to ship out... It is only available online right now. I hope the Sprint version ships soon. If anyone else out there has Sprint let me know if your device ships!

I got mine in yesterday (Thursday) morning. I jumped on Sprint.com and ordered it the second it was available on Tuesday. When did you order it?

Phone report:

After having it for a few days I have to say I am disappointed with the camera. It is fine if are into taking close-ups, indoors or near field pictures but don't try to zoom in and edit a picture after taken. It's pixelated as hell. I feel the second camera and refocusing is a gimmick that will I will rarely if ever use. The camera is much more accurate in focus and speed that my old Razr.

It is blazing fast, super thin (almost too thin), very light (almost too light) and big (yup, almost too big). All that is just acclamation and going from a smaller heavier Razr Maxx. It still fits in the pocket well so it's not big like a Phablet.

I got the glacier silver which has no real texture and is quite slick. I was hoping for a brushed finish for tone and texture, maybe the metal grey will have texture to it?

Screen is gorgeous! Streamed a 1080 HD movie last night with the boom sound speakers, just fantastic without headphones. The sound is f'n AWESOME period, exclamation point

Bloatware is not too bad, nowhere near what Moto put on the Razr.

12 days left to make up my mind... camera just sucks and I do need a sharp camera for work that I can take pictures of network gear and zoom in on make/model/s#, next week I have 2 discovery sessions to try the M8 out on but sad to say I will have to take my regular camera and take double pix just in case.

I really wanted a silver HTC M8. But Verizon purchased the exclusive rights to the silver One M8 and to sell the phones two weeks prior to other carriers. I'm going to rant! Verizon got the One last year and it was 6 months after other carriers. I guess they realized a huge boat was missed and had to jump on the bandwagon this year. Okay, I'm done ranting gentlemen.

Putting my nexus 5 up on classifieds and buying an M8 outright very soon.

Need to find the dot view case in canada ..

Probably just get it through my carrier (bell) and pay the $700+ should be able to get $350 for my N5 still.

Just ordered the M8 from telus

699 + 35 tax for

32gb Grey model with HTC Fetch, HTC 9000MAH power bank and the new double dip case.

Then ordered the dotview for $53 (backordered)

Once the phone arrives I'll use a 3rd party site to unlock it and if all goes well I'll sell my nexus 5.

:)

I currently have the original HTC One from last year (M7?) and love it, and am thinking, since I'm on a family plan, I could do the upgrade dumbline workaround to keep my grandfathered unlimited plan.

Does anyone know if this "trick" still works?
What I'm thinking is transfer the upgrade for my smartphone line to upgrade one of our dumbphone lines, then do the "trick" to transfer the new phone from that line to my line.
then I'd sell my current original One on the used market.

Some representatives will allow you to do this in stores (just depends on who you get) Best Buy is well known for allowing the "Dummy line" upgrade switch.

cool, I did the trick for my current One all online, I was probably going to do the same for this one, if the trick still worked, I just wasn't sure if they had "shut that whole thing down".

thanks!

Those of you in the U.S. on the big carriers need to read this and quit paying your carriers massive fees for subsidizing your smartphone and doing other stupid things to it like loading it up with bloatware and delaying firmware updates:

10 reasons why you should buy your HTC One M8 unlocked and direct from HTC | Android Central

Most US carriers are already moving away from subsidizing phones. Sprint was the latest with their "Framily plan" which moves away from the discounted phone/higher monthly rate plans. Sprint has one of the best. I have 7 people on my plan (3 on my actual plan and 4 in the "framily" which are seperate accounts not financially linked to mine. I pay $35/line for unlimited everything (it's $25 for the limited data plan)

I agree with the bloatware and firmware updates, but they are definitely getting better, especially with the firmware updates on newer devices.

The most important point (that is really unfortunate) is the fact that the factory unlocked versions cannot be used with CDMA carriers like Verizon and Sprint:

Directly from the article: [sic]Before we start, I have to mention that none of this applies for Sprint and Verizon customers in the U.S. You will need a carrier-certified device, with a serial number that is valid in the carrier's computer system for activation. All the radio differences aside, Sprint and Verizon get to decide what phones you use on their networks, not you. That's not saying an unlocked and unbranded device won't work... It just means it is very, very unlikely you will get any CSR to allow you to add a non-branded phone to your account.

Thanks for the link to a great article!

I ordered one this morning, should get it early next week. Hopefully.

It's $250 to order over the phone, and is rumored to be the same price in store. They'll issue a $50 mail in rebate that gets credited to the account after 2 billing cycles.

I ordered mine online, $200 + tax. I'll have 2 weeks to decide if it fits my needs or not, we'll see. :)

I'm also coming from an Evo 4G LTE, which I've really liked. Actually I still love this phone after 2 years, I just want to try something different. :D

Just doing a little window shopping/price comparison w/HTC/Carriers/Best Buy.

The AT&T variant is available in all three colors @ Best Buy,w/the Glacial Silver just being added to the Amber Gold & Gun Metal Grey.

Too bad the T-Mobile variant isn't available @ BEST BUY.However,I did find out that, should I use my JUMP & get this phone, the T-Mobile site will allow for me to use either one of my phones for the JUMP/Trade-In,even though the G2 is the one that is actually tied to the program.

Although I totally dig the FLEX,I'm leaning towards letting it go vs the G2,w/the screen resolution (720 vs 1080) as the deciding factor.....

Does T-Mobile give you a 2 week trial period to decide if you like the phone?

If they do, there's nothing to lose. :)

Yessir, they do.The only issue I have a question about is the JUMP/Trade-in, should you change your mind & opt to not keep the new phone.

I'm guessing,if you go back to the same model you traded in,you start your JUMP all over & lose the six months of payment toward the original phone.

To boil it down, the JUMP is just another term for lease/rent-to-own with a down payment.

I've caught a lot of (mostly) friendly flak from friends & co-workers in the last year or so regarding the frequency of switching phones.
As a master of rationalization, I just flip the conversation back in their court & point out their vices/hobbies & related cost per month. At that point, the conversation usually gets very quiet........ :D

Nexus 5 is quite a bit faster than the M7 due to Snapdragon 800 and it has a reasonable camera, I respect your opinion but they are very different phones, neither blows the other away.

Congrats and sticking with the S3 for so long though, I hated that phone. :p

I've had my SGSIII rooted for about a year now, and that's what has kept me from dumping it. That, and the fact that my contract isn't up yet.:p

Just an FYI- the gallery app has been updated in the play store. It has some really cool updates including copy and pasting people from one photo to another, stickers, and just interesting little tweaks!

-They also updated and enhanced the ability to use the sketch /zoom blur /cartoon /colorize option to
select what part of the image you want the effect on (like ufocus). It is more accurate.

Check it out
