I bet Gingerbread becomes like a 2.0, where it doesn't really come out much, but Honeycomb is what we all look for.
"Hey, did you download that new Honeycomb ROM yet?"
That sounds so lame. Not that gingerbread is amazing either. But that's just embarrassing to say around the office.

Our eris is gonna be top of the list for 4.0, screw froyo and gingerbread. Honeycomb is where its at.

Oh darn, the world's population of cute animals is still recovering from Android 2.1 and 2.2. Let alone 3.0 and 4.0!!

What makes you say that? Considering most newer devices, or at least the high-end ones, will be designed to meet or exceed the minimum requirements for 3.0, it wouldn't make sense for most phones to not ship with it around the holiday season.
No one has quite answered whether the specifications for 3.0 will mean that even a root ROM wouldn't be possible for devices otherwise incapable of running it. Which means 2.2 could really be the end of the line, regardless of your device being rooted or not.

Honeycomb is supposed to be so efficient with memory allocation and device power that will make the Eris feel like a N1!!
