Aria update!

I applied the update the same day it was released and thankfully was able to reload everything back from the market... just in case I backed up all my .apk's before updating... backup is crucial...

Since I updated the ROM on my Aria last week my phone tries to check for updates every time I turn the phone on. First comes a "My Account Update, checking for new software now" screen, followed by an "Error, Server Unavailable" screen (kind of like my PC checking with Windows Update when I turn my computer on, but that works...this doesn't).

ATT said I needed a new SIM card, but that didn't do anything. HTC says I need to replace my phone. I'm wondering whether this is a new program built into the new ROM that will allow ATT to do OTA updates, but which isn't functional yet (and, if so, there's nothing wrong with my phone).

Does anyone have a clue what's happening to my phone and whether I need to replace it or just wait for ATT to get their act together??

there is nothing wrong with the phone... everyone has the same error message... the server for OTA isn't up and running yet... there is nothing wrong with the sim... every one i have talked to in other forums are getting the same thing... just give it some time and the server will be up... hopefully to push out Froyo... (fingers crossed)

Has anyone began to recieve the OTA updates. I'm also getting the error messages and also having trouble turning off the 3G. I was on with HTC tech support for 30 mins trying to solve it. Finally they told me to do a hard restore and if they didn't solve it to contact AT&T. I would rather not do another hard restore since I just had to do one and spent a day reloading all my apps and stiing up the phone.

ny help wouyld be greatly appreciated.

AT&T and HTC have not yet released an OTA update for the Aria, thus the reason the error message is still occurring. Once AT&T gets ready to release the update, the server will be brought on-line and then the error message should stop.

Why not root your phone and head over to XDA-Developers and load up Liberated FR Series (FR008 is the current version). This ROM is the European Gratia released Froyo ROM with HTC Sense and works just fine.

Thanks for the update, better info than HTC or AT&T provided. I've been thinking of rooting the phone as well, I'm an old HTC Tilt owner and I am very familiar with XDA Developers. Thanks again

Latest update on the OTA issue. I contacted AT&T tech support twice for about an hour each time. The first call after doing another soft reset, resting the network and sending an activation signal (which screwed up my VM) the tech decided to send me a sim card. To their credit they did overnight it to me.

Still no joy and the error popped up at startup. I called tech support again and after being on hold for twenty min's the tech says I need to speak to a tier 2 tech support but they are closed, this was 700pm. So now I'm going to have to take time from work to sit on hold and call AT&T again
