Wanted to make a thread about this, but might aswell use this one.
What is your experience with jogging or running with your phone (not talking about apps but the performance, and possible negative effects)
I go running twice a week and would actually like to try and use my phone to track my progress and speed and such.
But i have a few issues with this:
Primary concern is that i go running somewhat late in the evening (9-10 pm). So obviously I concerned that it might get stolen. This isn't a phone problem but nevertheless it's an issue for me.
Second, I wonder what effects running or jogging has on the phone's internals. I'm pretty sure it's well constructed and made, but I am worried that something could break whilst i'm running. Have you had any past experience with this? Or doesn't it seem to have an effect at all?

I always used my Nokia N82 to track my runs, without any problems.
I've also been slightly more nervous about using my HTC Desire, as it seems a bit more complex and possibly fragile, but I don't think jogging will affect it much more than just carrying it around your pocket all day. Moisture could be an issue, but with a good armband that should be fine too.
I'm using Cardio Trainer at the moment btw, it's not quite as good as SportsTracker was on my Nokia phones, so I might try some other apps.

I have an iPhone armband (from my last phone) and it fits the Desire really quite well. The only thing I had to do was make a small hole for the headphone jack, as it's on the other side to the iPhone. So whilst it's probably not worth buying an iPhone case for a desire, if you see one going cheap or have one lying around it can be made to work with only a little surgery.
Hi, do you use the iPhone 3G armband from Belkin? I was thinking to get this one for the Desire but had doubts if it fits. Thanks.

I just bought this: iGadgitz Black Neoprene Sports Armband for Apple iPhone: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo
it's for the iphone, but the dimensions of the 2 handsets are quite similar so I thought I'd give it a go..
It arrived this morning and I'm very pleased with it.
The Desire is a whole 3.5mm taller than the iPhone, making this a bit of a tight fit, but that actually counts in it's favour. Because it's more or less "jammed" in, it feels really secure. and the hole to put your phone inside is covered by a large velcro hatch on the inside of the band (against your arm when worn) so there's ZERO chance of it falling out.
I installed cartiotrainer yesterday and today I'll be giving them both a good test on a short run near my house.
I recommend this armband for the HTC Desire.

Igadgitz have just brought out a HTC Desire specific armband.
They have got a website they sell it from.
If anyone has tried it out would be interested to hear what you think of it.
There are some posts about people using the Igadgitz Nexus One armband with the desire and they said it worked well.
p.s. The Igadgitz website says that they are currently out of stock, even though it has just gone up on their website. 25/10/10

Sorry to drag this up, but only recently have I started using the Desire to track my performance. I actually made my own, and am pretty happy, but the flaw in the design of mince is that I can't interact with the device since I have it totally covered up. This arm band however takes care of that by adding that clear plastic in the front. My question though is if you can interact with the device, I mean, the Desire is capacitive as opposed to resistive touchscreen. Can you still turn the screen on and use it?

Which Armband do you use? Do you have a link? I've often considered one as it's a nuisance having anything in your pocket jogging, and holding it is far from ideal..

I sprung for the iGadgitz armband yesterday. It should be here till mid next week at the latest. I'll let you know what I think of it then. For now I can tell you that I have tried a series of universal armbands (after consulting this forum) and have found that I can control my screen quite well on all of them, despite the plastic cover. But none of these universal armbands was quite good enough. Some were too baggy, some too plain ugly, some had the headphone jack on the wrong side, some didn't have a strap to hold the excess cord (I hate that thing just hanging there, dangling in front of me, hitting my arms as I go). The iGadgitz seems like a good all rounder. Made for the Desire, made to accommodate it's size. Pretty solid looking and, hey presto, bonus point: it's waterproof. Great for those rainy and drizzly days. Also it looks well built and doesn't look like it'll fall apart when you touch it. Which is good for when I go hiking. Only down side is I am pretty sure it'll be useless if I ever upgrade to a different phone.

I bought this one according to my Amazon order history. I know it says "iPhone" but someone on here at the time said it fitted (and, indeed, it does).

So I have been playing around with the iGadgitz armband for the last few days and so far I am fairly pleased with it. At first I was feeling a bit insecure when using it. Unless I really tightened the thing to the point of cutting off my circulatory system, I was always under the impression it was slipping off my arm. Not the case and now I have it firmly placed on my arm, but not so tight to cause discomfort. The phone it's self is a real tight fit into the armband. It seems to me that they took the iPhone band and just adapted it. It's actually a bit difficult to fit it into the pocket at first. After you get the hang of it, it's actually pretty damn good. Quality is great. Doesn't feel like a piece of rubbish. I do have some chafing under my arm, but I think I got that from when I had it on too tight. After the initial kinks and stuff, I am now happy to say that this armband rocks and was just what I was looking for.
