Article says Note 2 will be narrower

I hope the article is dead wrong. I didn't get the S3 because I didn't want a narrower phone. That's the only reason. What would be the purpose of making it like the S3 when there is already an S3. So, the difference will be the pen and a drop more speed? I think Note fans want a bigger phone in width too (same size & aspect as now) so that it's more like a tablet they can use as a phone. There are so many applications that make the width so alluring, like Excel, Word, browsing the net and anything you have to read.

I saw and held the S3 at Time Sq, in NYC and I didn't like it because it was too narrow. If the article is correct, I hope HTC or Motorola will pick up the dropped ball and run with it because that phone will not be for me.

Unfortunately for you, the first thing Verizon will have is the LG Optimus VU according to what's been circulating:

LG Optimus Vu Appears to be Headed to Verizon – Droid Life

Also, since the original Note is getting older now, I doubt Samsung or Verizon would want to make a CDMA version of it. The Note 2 may be more of a possibility, however, now that Verizon knows there's a market and the VU is probably a stopgap until then.

I know that LG isn't usually associated with the newest and latest technology, but some of the best and most stable media phones I have had have been LG.
Maybe they are becoming more innovative. It could happen.:)
All I am saying is don't count them out just yet. Let's see what they can do first.

call me corny but I don't care for the 16:10 aspect ratio for phones. While it may technically be bigger..it just doesn't feel as big as a 16:9 aspect phone.

If the Note2 is 5.5" at 16:10 vs 5.3" at 16:9...it really wont look any bigger?

I'm confused.... Isn't the Galaxy Note (1st one) 16:10? Which would make it wider than a 16:9?

BTW. I bought a HTC one x awhile back and returned it because it was too narrow. I'm assuming it was a 16:9. Does anyone know what the Samsung Galaxy s3 is? 16:9 or 16:10? That will probably make my decision between the Note and S3. Thanks

Note1 is 16:10 (LOVE IT), pretty much everything else is stupid 16:9.

VZW will not subsidize Tablets anymore. I never wanted one, but now I want one even less. I loved the width of the Note & didn't like the width of the S3, at all. So, I am keeping my Blackberry until VZW gets a phone I want or I'll just give up and get a Note or a Notes 2 from ATT. If the new Note2 has the same aspect ratio as the S3, screw that and I hope some company will make a larger and wider phone, even if it is an Apple or a Windows Phone.

The most important things to me is readability, usability and interchangeable batteries. When we had hurricane Irene in NY in 2011, how lucky was I to have 3 extra batteries and a plug in battery charger that my friend used to charge my batteries for me during the day while I was moving around at various meetings.

I'll second this, but I guess I'll survive if the extra .2 inches is upwards and we keep the same width. So lemme see, 1280x800 with another .2 inches might put it at like 1400x800. I'm not bothering to do math here though, anyone?

you sure? I think its 16:9 (wider) while the Galaxy S3 is 16:10 (narrower)

EDIT: Googling I see people saying the Note res is 16:10...hmm, i always thought it was 16:9. So I guess 16:9 is the narrow screen vs. the wider screen. Anytime I watch 4:3 content on my Samsung plasma I have to make it 16:9 to fill the screen...16:10 leaves slight bars.

16 is the height, 9/10 is the width ratio. Bigger number is wider and slightly more square.

To the OP I think the mention of "narrower" probably refers to THINNER, as is every phone's goal these days.

Bulldog, nope narrower is less width. Thinner is less height when lying flat on a table.

I agree with ItalianHunk. I have been waiting for a wider phone for so many reasons and for so many months, especially for use with Excel, Word and just plain reading. 16:9 might be great for movies but not for those things mentioned above. I really hadn't even seen the Note till last month because I wasn't interested in ATT. But one day while walking in BJs I saw it and fell in love with it again, this time with the actual phone.

ATT isn't great where I live on Long Island but we're moving to the Boca-Delray-Boynton area where I believe ATT's 4G (without LTE) is decent. Without having a cell tower map, are they available anywhere, who knows for sure if service is good at a given location without actually testing it. You don't want awful voice service at home or the areas where you are the most. What's more frustrating than not being able to reach or be reached at your main haunts.

If you watch lots of videos and you're young, then the S3 is perfect. For business apps that extra 10mm or is it cm makes a difference. So, I'm pointed at the Note2 and hope they don't change the width. I don't believe the tablets are 16:9 and for good reason.

My wishlist includes a phone that fits in your pocket but has sides that pull out to add a lot more width so that it becomes 9:16. That and my foldaway Bluetooth Stowaway keyboard and I have a laptop wherever I need it without adding 10 pounds and a big case to what I have to carry. I'll even be able to do tax returns on it.

This is why there jerks a Microsoft blew the potential of phones. They still have a chance but they should have been there already. If Jobs rather than Gates and Ballmer were there, imagine what Windows Phone would have been.
