Ask me anything about the Motorola DROID MAXX!

I just got the Droid Maxx, and I want to turn off notifications on my Facebook app, but there is no dedicated settings button on the phone. How do I access other settings within the app?

When you open the Facebook app, there are a list of four icons just below the blue bar. Tap the one on the right (the "hamburger" icon.) Scroll down that list and you'll find an "app settings" entry that you can tap to adjust notifications.

I found that, but it doesn't contain all the settings I am looking for. I turned off notifications for everything it had available, but it still sent me notifications for every time someone commented on a post of mine, or one I had also commented in, or someone on my "close friends" list updated their status.

I went to the master app list, and was able to select an option to turn off all notifications from Facebook, but I want to be able to toggle message notifications on and off. When I turned off notifications in the master app list, I no longer get notifications about messages, even if I have it turned on within the app.

Really not liking the new Facebook app so far. I also miss having a dedicated settings button.

Well, I have all notifications turned off, and I never get a notification (until I open the app, of course, and then I get the badge.) So, I guess I can't help you there...

There is a separate Facebook Messenger app. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.facebook.orca

So you can turn off notifications in the regular app and then toggle them in the Messenger app, if all that you want is notifications for messages. Actually, I think if you have both installed you can turn on the chat heads feature.

The Facebook app is better than it used to be. About a year or two ago, every time the app updated it turned notifications on for me, even though I had them off. It doesn't do that anymore at least. And I find the performance and battery use for the app is much, much better than it used to be.

I was never interested in the messenger app. I didn't know you could turn off the chat heads though. That's good, because that was one of the most annoying things about the app for me. I don't like the new Facebook app because I feel like they took some control over its functions away from me. Glad it's working better for you though.

Guess I will have to finally install messenger if I want control over my notifications.

I like messenger. Hate, hate, hate the stupid chat heads. Sometimes I'm chatting with several people so I have multiple heads all over my screen(s), just give me a notification. UG. Yeah, first world problems... whatever. LOL

I'm not familiar with Skinomi, but does it cover any of the holes? If it does I'd consider removing it. If it doesn't take it in to Verizon and have them take a look at it. The mic may be bad.

Anyone get a chance to answer my earlier question about microphone sound?

The muffled sound after installing Skinomi is probably the result of the installation liquid getting into the microphone port on the screen. I don't know how you could clear it out....what does Skinomi say?

Where are the holes / microphone on the screen?

I have had Skinomi applied twice. Both times by my wife. The first time she used the liquid and I think the sound was okay. The second time is when I noticed the sound problem but she didn't even use the liquid this time to stick it. So it must be covering the hole but I'm not sure where those holes / microphone are.

It's located at the very lower margin of the glass right between the back button and the home button. There are also a couple located right behind that one, on the back side of the body. The owner's manual has a picture of the location. All the holes are very tiny and easily clogged.

I have a skinomi and it doesn't cover the microphone. There is a very slight cutout for it on the bottom left of the skin, just to the right of the back button at the bottom of the glass, just above the Kevlar chin.

how do i get into the settings of the current maxx. i had the 1st gen maxx and i got into it by dialing ##PROGRAM.

i cannot do this on the current droid. i want to change the default 4g to 3g and save battery.

also, if there is a different procedure to change the settings than what they were for the 1st gen maxx,,,thx

You can't get into settings that way. There is an app called LTE on/off for thunderbolt (I think) that will let you toggle that but it gets reset after each phone restart. Fwiw, in my experience, even living in a place with weak LTE signals, toggling makes no difference in battery life for me.

there can't be no way to do it? i'll bet if i took the maxx into a verizon store and asked them to disable 4g, they could(whether they WOULD is another story)

I use an app called Notification Toggle that allows you to add one touch shortcuts to the top of the pull-down menu. One of the options it has will take you into "Phone Info" and there, you can set the phone to CDMA only which effectively turns off the 4G radio and LTE.

I'm trying to get to that menu on my own but cannot seem to find it...

As per my official DROID MAXX review on Phandroid.com, anyone curious about anything in regards to the DROID MAXX can ask here, and their question shall be answered. Don't be shy!
What are your anticipated specs as far as the next hardware refresh Q4 this year?

I pray it's x8 based with either same size or slightly larger display but smaller bezels. I hope it has a 3800mah+ battery. Micro usb 3.0. Stock Google experience launcher and dialer. Unlocked bootloader. 32gb memory with 3gbs-5gbs ram.

Now if my begging made a difference I'd want lapdock support or at least something like a padfone.

Let's face it. We have the ability technologically speaking to make a cell phone, convert-able to a tablet, convert-able to a laptop, that can also dock to a larger display with keyboard and mouse!

Any who, I'm certain the new Droid will have android lollipop and probably come out with the moto 360 and moto x+1. Right?

I dunno what's going on with the 16gb version but they can be had dirt cheap. They are frequently sold on Craigslist under $200 and under $300 on swappa.com and eBay for brand new.

I would say if you have plenty of upgrades to spare then by all means now is always the time to upgrade. Like I've said before the trade up and comcast promos really make it too good to resist.

If upgrades aren't abundant then you could buy one off contract and resell later for a small loss.

I gotta say tho, if the refresh only has 2gbs of ram I'm probably not going to waste an upgrade even though we are sitting on 3. Well, unless we finally get clarification that being in contract prevents 4g throttling then we may just upgrade regardless.
