Root Assonance on Captivate

Okay, so Ive heard GREAT things about Assonance, however I'm slightly challenged when it comes to rooting my device and adding custom ROMs and whatnot. I haven't rooted my phone yet, I'm using a mac and it's hard to find the right steps to take to root with a mac. I was wondering if any of you could message me or help me figure out how to get Assonance working on my Captivate in a step-by-step manner keeping in mind that I would need this explained in the simplest way possible. Thanks for you time, I also hope this is in the right forum!

My recommendation would be dual booting fwiw. (Your mac that is)

also assonance is no longer supported, the dev moved to serendipity

There is a one click root available on the PC and Mac here: [PROGRAM] Updated:One Click Root/UnRoot (Mac and PC) - xda-developers

It is really more of an app that renames either the root.zip or unroot.zip to update.zip and then copies the file to the internal sd card. Then you reboot the phone, put it into recovery mode, reinstall the package and you are rooted. Once rooted, everything else, Installing ROM manager, installing the rom, ect.. can be done from the phone.
