ASUS Transformer Prime Delayed Until Next Year Over WiFi Issues? (No, but supply may be limited)

I pre-ordered from J&R. I just spoke with their customer service and i was told that Asus has confirmed to them that the transformer prime will not be available until after January. So sad! That was my Christmas present to myself. Tempted to buy the regular transformer but I may have to wait. I am more than ready to dump the iPad 2.

If there really is an issue, I wouldn't put too much faith in that phone call. CS reps are usually clueless and unaware of any issues until there is official/released word.

I pre-ordered from J&R. Just confirmed with them. It is delayed till January.

Checked with Amazon this morning and they have been notified by Asus that they are having a problem with production and they are not sure when they will be available. Mine was set for a January 11th ship date, but it appears that is not a good date now.

A few reviews mentioned wifi issues, so maybe ASUS went back and ran a lot sample. Results might have not been favorable.

If software, probably a month away. No telling how long if hardware.

Lenonvo Tegra 3 might beat it to street if hardware.

Regardless, Apple is probably high fiving.

Amazon does, whatever you buy from November thru the holidays you can return on or before January 31st.

Darn, darn, darn. I have to buy a new computer for work before 12/31 (they will pay for it). My husband already has an ipad and I don't like it (no usb port for pda net, closed format etc). What's a girl to do now?
Any stores have a longer return policy where I can buy the current transformer and return it when the new one comes out?

lol I have been actually because that's one of my 3 phones I'm looking at. Rezound, Razr, and nexus :) - Droid 4 looks interesting too but I'm not sure yet. I think I ruled out the Razr because the screen isn't 720p. anway

The problem with the Asus launch was that there was an actual pre-order usually indicating imminent release and that wasn't even the case to begin with. It wasn't going to be released until the 19th and pre-orders started when? Late November - early December. Now we find out it's delayed until next year.

Nexus isn't even close to being this bad. Yes delayed because of Google wallet and its entirely Verizon's fault but there has been no pre-order chaos. What makes it bad for asus is because it's the holidays. It kind of sets an anger tone to it because people thought they could get it for Christmas and then find out that isn't the case.

I think the lesson learned here is to not release products late into the holidays hoping there are no issues or delays. Instead just say "early first quarter" to avoid this PR nightmare.

"The worst launch of any product"? Guess you haven't been follow the galaxy nexus forum..

This story is completely false, I assume engineered by an apple fanboy. I unlike most other posters here, simply picked up a phone and called asus. Asus had no clue what I was talking about, no delays, no wifi issues. When the costumer service rep looked it up on her pc, it said Q4 as the release date, as it always had.

Poor, poor reporting that starts a chain reaction of chaos. I'm sure the jelous apple fanboy is reveling in his mischief.

How you come up with delayed to 2012 is beyond me, as its not even in that fake email.

Lol, post is practically word for word from Mobile Syrup.

Posts removed, thanks for the links.

Apology to all offended, was worked up because noone was listening and reposting a story I knew to be false (contacted asus and best buy as soon as I heard, still unsure why noone tried this approach; get the info yourself before posting as my internet exploded with reposts of a single email a canadian company sent). Was treated poorly in other forums/sites and brought the anger here, which didnt help the people here

Sorry All

Well, the positive is we have a nice device like this to create all the stuff in the first place.

Not long to find out if the rumor was a concoction :)

No worries. :)

If anyone abuses you here, to the left of their post is a button marked !Report - please use it. As one of my fellow mods likes to say, don't retort, just report.

+1 to rushmore - this is going to be one heck of a device!!! :)

Curious if ASUS main HQ publishes any information to refute or support. Seems if anything will slow the device down to a shipping crawl for volume, will be the new Tegra 3 chip.

If there is any substance to current rumors, we should hear by tomorrow. ASUS is pretty good for letting customers know status.

Nvidia has always been ahead of the curve with their processors. The Tegra 2 was ready and sitting around waiting for manufacturers to catch up. So much so that they skipped the midlife cycle update. Same thing with the Tegra 3, their roadmap has been to have this chip on store shelves already, so I would guess/hope they have enough production already in place to keep up.

My guess would be that ASUS wouldn't be able to satisfy all the pre orders and get enough product to retailers at the same time. That could be due to any number of suppliers or ASUS themselves not having the capacity, but I'd be surprised if Nvidia was the one holding production back.

Regardless, the main theme is the device will likely be a lot later than most folks expect and will get it. Even preorders.

This could make the Trans 1 supply issues seems like a surplus.

Just called my local Gamestop and they said they stopped taking pre-orders but would have a "couple" in store on the 15th? Is anybody else getting this?

I suspect staff are woefully ill-informed. Gamestop, who came on the scene late in terms of PO and supposedly selling them, is going to get them and have stock and Amazon will not?

Not to mention Gamestop is selling tablets as a test, so not all stores have them. Test markets only.

Several sources quote Asus as saying that "shipments will start on the 19th of December." I wonder what shipments they're referring to. That is, do they mean shipping from Taiwan (or wherever it's made), or from vendors such as Amazon? Any guesses on who's shipping what and when and to whom?
