At&t "4g" speeds? Yeah, keep trying

I heard that some guy filed a complaint with better business bureau or something because his Atrix wasn't achieving the 4G speeds advertised. At&t responded by punishing all Atrix and Inspire users by turning off the hspa, saying it might come back sometime in january. I just ran a test and got 112 kbps down, 131 kbps up, and that's average for my HTC inspire.

Don't get me wrog, I love my Inspire more than bugs and snakes, but it's At&t I can't stand. What a cruel joke, giving me such an awesome phone and an entirely unrealistic data plan. Who can stay under 2 gigs? ? Insanity! Ok, I'm done with my little rant.

You know what makes me laugh. What the hell do we need these ridiculous speeds for? How much freakin time do people spend on there freakin phones ?? We want faster and faster meanwhile battery life suffers and price will go up. It's a phone man not a freakin laptop or desktop

Your information sounds erroneous

Which information? Do you have evidence to the contrary? I wish people could be more clear. The speedtest.net results I copied carefully, and the story I might have remembered wrong, here's a link.

MobileBurn: AT&T will enable HSUPA for ATRIX 4G and Inspire 4G in April

So I guess we are getting an update soon. Can't wait.

That isn't the point. The point is it isn't right for a major company like At&t to advertise something and not deliver. They promised 4G speeds on these 2 phones, and i don't know anyone that has been able to achieve them. I know it wasn't on purpose, but the fact is they have 4G in the names.

Spoken like a true luddite. (Or see here.)

It's progress. Mobile computing is the future.

It's basic economics. The demand is there. Someone will fill that demand. Whether it is AT&T is entirely up to AT&T. But with that attitude, I fear AT&T will not see the future clearly enough until it runs them over.

(Edit: let me rephrase your quote to fit the past . . .)

What do we need faster laptops for? How much time do people spend using computers? We want faster and faster meanwhile battery life suffers and price will go up. It's a laptop man not a freakin desktop or server.

Why do we need bigger and bigger screen TV's? How much time to people spend in front of TV? It's a TV, not a movie theater.

Why do we want 70 mph speed limits on highways instead of say, 30 mph? What the hell do we need these ridiculous speeds for? How much freakin time do people spend traveling? We want faster and faster meanwhile fuel efficiency suffers and price will go up.

They didn't promise when and how long it would take. When you bought the phone on ATT website for all 4G phones there is an asterisk. That asterisk says " 4G brought to you by enhanced backhaul with hspa+ enhanced backhaul will start deployment on or about march 31st 2011"
So that tells you right there that it is coming and wasn't to be expected right away. Along with many other things. So what's the point again ?

First off, not everyone buys phones on the website, silly woman. I bought mine over the phone, as a friendly rep assured me I would achieve 4G speeds. And it is well past March 31. Did ATT hire you as their champion to hang out in forums all day and defend them at all costs? I bet they pay you in data, because their data plan sucks a fat one.

First off silly idiot I'm not a woman. Secondly I didn't buy mine off the website either but as an educated buyer I did something called research! I KNOW its foreign to people ya know they buy cars with no research and houses without reading their mortgages but then they complain their mpg sucks or their mortgage is not affordable. Do yourself a favor educate yourself before you open your.mouth

I know you're not a woman. I just thought it was funny when someone else called you a woman and you got mad. I read reviews before purchase, I trust reviews more than your favorite website.

What does that even mean. There was evidence before your.purchase or reviews that hspa+ and hsupa were not enabled. It has nothing to do with me having a favorite. It has everything to do with people not researching a purchase and then pulling the class action law suit bs. Were lazy nation and we expect everything handed to us. Then we sit and wonder why the world calls us arrogant and gluttonous

Hey, let's be best friends! Put this little disagreement behind us. We can play words with friends and online chess and other fun Droid stuff.

What lol lol ok man

Oh good, I made friendship bracelets for us using a market app. Presumptuous of me, I know, but I feel like I know you well enough on a deep level to know what your answer would be. Mine is red, orange and yellow, and yours is green, blue and purple. They compliment each other which I feel symbolizes our friendship perfectly.

HSUPA is different from HSPA.

Your initial post was claiming that they throttled HSPA.

HSUPA is nothing that a simple root & rom can't fix.

I get around 5.8 Mbps down and 1.3 Mbps up.

Proof

HSUPA is different from HSPA.

High Speed UPLINK Packet Access is actually part of HSPA, and is the counterpart to High Speed Downlink Packet Access. Just defining terms.

It starts getting good when you get HSPA+ speeds, so that one can connect to a sling box when "out", or in an environment where cellular internet is the only option, or the circuit is shared (work, car, client site, etc). Its also a viable option for a redundant circuit for telecommuters.

Wow, a lot of people seem jealous of our bond. Sad, really. Get your own bestie, envy is a sickness.

I went over my data allowance, i wonder if they slow down internet for people that go over like some companies do. I just ran my test again and it was worse than normal, .03 down and .08 up. I don't know whats going on.
