Root [AT&T] Custom Rom failed, status 7

Using High on Android tutorials, I rooted, backed up stock rom with CWM and apps with TB. This evening, I downloaded the custom rom zip file to the external sd card, Using CWM, I did a wipe data/factory reset and proceeded to install rom zip file.
After a few seconds, I got the status 7 error. One of High on Android's tutorials suggest deleting some entries from updater.script file in the custom rom, Another location talks about a certain app to correct the issue.
I tried to restore the stock rom using CWM but can't find it on internal and external storage. I no it's somewhere because I renamed it with the current date.
Do I have any options or is this thing bricked?

The phone is a AT&T SGH-i747 unlocked and running on TMobile network. I think it was running Jelly ean 4.1.2.

Thanks for any replies.

No its not bricked you can get into recovery so your fine. Ive came across this error many times. never really found out what causes issue. Sometimes my experience has been because of a bad rom, file download wasnt completely full, recovery wasnt compatible with rom so had to upgrade or change recovery installed. Anyways as far as cwm and your backup goes. In order for cwm to see backup that has to be in folder that is cwm/backup. Now i do believe from prior experience that thats located in the internal storage. When you factory reset that erases internal storage. I do believe cwm has a setting to change this, I use twrp so not sure if or how to in cwm. Plug sd into pc see if you can find your backup. If its not let us know and i can help ya get back to a running phone

Yeah, the status 7 error is either a bad download (you should be verifying the published MD5 sum of file after downloading and before flashing) or an assert check in the updater-script of the .zip file you're trying to flash (you did mention removing some lines? that's probably / usually not a good idea unless you know exactly what lines and why you're removing them--the asserts are there to verify that the environment that the .zip file expects to exist do in fact exist).

Anyway, you're in good / better hands with dmcjr22  :).

Aww scary you make me blush :p!!

dmcjr22, thanks for your advice.

Today, I got the phone back up and running. The other night, CWM couldn't open the restore file. By chance, I pulled the sim card and battery and now CWM found and loaded the file.
I"m going to switch over to TWRP, how do I go about installing it?

the easiest way is to install goo manager from play store, from there its one of the options is to install twrp, if that doesnt work for ya i can track down a link for ya

I installed GooManager and when I opened it I got "The requested URL/message was not found on this server".

When I proceeded to "Install OpenRecoveryScript" I got "Unable to find a recovery for your device.

I know there are other ways to install twrp but I'd like to take advantage of the simplicity that GooManager offers.

hey my guesstimation is server error and not your fault kind of thing ive encountered that as well here is a link for ya Techerrata Downloads - Browsing d2att this is directly fro there site choose the tar file for 2.7.1 the latest version and use odin to flash. By some chance you have problems with it just choose another version you can always upgrade in gooto latest version

Okay, I grabbed the tar file for 2.7.1 but now I have a question on Odin.

I'm reviewing this tutorial for Odin and the particular version he's using has a ops function. He also warned only to use the button he you have the specified phone.
For the tutorial he's using Odin v2.252.

[GUIDE] How to use ODIN for dummies | Galaxy 3 I5800 | XDA Forum

I have Odin3v1.85 that I used to root my S3. It doesn't have the ops button on the interface. Do I need to update the the latest version and what is the function and where do I get the ops file?
