Root [AT&T] SGH-I747 update problem

Hi I have a GS3 SGH-I747 rooted on android 4.0.4. I'm looking to update to the latest stable version without losing any apps or information on the phone. I have researched and can not find an answer to updating the phone without factory resetting first. Has anyone been able to figure out this one?

I don't think that you can do such a major update without factory resetting your phone (someone please correct me if I am wrong). What you should do is look into sms backup to back up your text messages and titanium backup to back up your app data. Make sure that Google is set to backup all your contacts and you should be good to go.

P. S. Don't do a standard update or you will lose your root.

You can update from official samsung ICS to 4.1.2 without a wipe, most average users did, but id defo do a wipe at some point coz so many people had bugs after the update that could only be cured by a full reset.
