aTAKEphONE released

Wow. I totally missed that. That is awesome! Stuff like this is why this app rocks!

Hi,

I am banging my head trying to figure out a way to make this more clear - the option is already there...

When you press the "Send" option you are taken to the FIND sreen where you indeed see a BT & barcode options.

But SMS & emails are also there - you need to FIND the contact you want to send to... So - from that screen with the BT & barcode options - just start a search for the contact you want to send TO. Once you find it - tap it on the search results list, and select the phone/email field you want to send to.

How do you edit the widget? I've typed in a wrong number and I can't figure out how to fix it.

Also, is there an easier way to add a number to the widget?

Hi,

Not sure this is possible - 3rd party developers do not have access to all telephony internals...

Understand.. There is still posible to add a screen layer on top of it. Personally, I think the user not only having the better UI for dialing but also call and received experience... :p

Thanks

What's new:

- Adopt display to tablet devices.
- Option for QWERTY keyboard (check out "Find/Dial" tab section in preferences, need to hide T9 keypad to use the qwerty keyboard).
- Send contact from call log details, too.
- Purge filtered calls from call log (to allow deleting all calls to a contact).
- Greek language search.
- Droid Pro keyboard fix.

Thanks.

Hi.

I really like your application. However I never use pictures in contacts and so I find that the i-Bar is not very useful for me. Can you put an option in the settings to simply turn it off?

It would free up real estate and get rid of the empty pictures.

Thanks.

Hi,

Thanks for your interest in aTAKEphONE, and your kind words.

To get rid of the i-Bar - open aTAKEphONE preferences, go to "Find/Dial tab" section, and change the "When search empty..." option there.

I've been using Dialer One for some time and keep passing this thread by thinking I already have a good dialer, but lately I've been frustrated by lag in the app, so I decided to take a look at aTAKEphONE. So far I think it's very good and worth the asking price, but there are two things I know I will miss from Dialer One: the ability to display the call log above the dial pad, and the "grouped" call log.

If implemented in aTAKEphONE, the call log above the dial pad would logically replace the "last call", and optionally the i-Bar. Like someone else posted above, I also don't use contact photos, making the i-Bar of no use to me. I would love to be able to use the vacated screen space to display additional calls from the log. If this list were scrollable, ideally the dial pad would disappear upon scrolling.

The lack of a grouped call log is something I think I can get over, especially since I can display a caller's history in aTAKEphONE.

Thanks for making a trial available - I'm looking forward to checking the app out thoroughly and moving ahead with a purchase.

Thanks you for your kind words and valuable input. Please find some comments below:

This is handled by the settings "When search empty show:" in the "'Find/Dial' tab" section in aTAKEphONE preferences.

I will be adding an option to display last call there.
Right now you can eliminate the i-Bar there.

BTW - if you select to display contacts there - they will be displayed by frequency of calls, so in a sense this is like "grouped call log".

You can make the dialpad disappear by dragging it down.

I will be adding grouping next, thinking of how I want to implement it.

The option for "Last call" is already there. I didn't mean to imply that this option should be replaced by another option, but that on the Find/Dial tab, recent calls (plural) could be displayed as an alternative to the "last call" (singular).

Most frequently called is obviously not the same as most recently called, but I'll try displaying contacts when the search is empty and see how that works. Thanks!

BTW - to me, the benefit of the grouped call log in Dialer One is that each person appears in the list only once, keeping the display list shorter, and allowing you to "drill down" for more detail. The native Android call log does something similar, but only if the calls are consecutive - allowing people to appear more than once if other calls occur in between.

You can make the dialpad disappear by dragging it down.

Thanks. But what I was trying (poorly) to say is that if/when a scrollable list is presented above the dialpad, it would be good to have the dialpad automatically hide once you start to scroll the list.

Hi,

That was a typo - I meant an "call log" option, not "last call".
I will add an option to show the call log when search is empty.

I would like to give the option to view "normally" (expanded) as well as grouped "your way" and grouped "nexus one way".

Trying to figure out the best way to do this.

I'm using aTAKEphONE 1.46, and it seems that setting the "display group" to "my contacts" behaves the same as "all contacts". While I did have a problem with my contacts recently that ended up having all contacts in the My Contacts group, this has been corrected. The native contacts app correctly displays only My Contacts when configured to do so. Selecting "Contacts with phone numbers" and "Starred in Android" appear to work as expected.

Am I missing something with regard to My Contacts?

Also, is there an option to display the call log using relative times, such as "21 minutes ago", as opposed to "4:43pm"? I can't seem to find a setting for this, if it exists.

Hi,

I will check the "My Contacts" thing. I was never sure as to what that means...
What does it mean according to your built-in dialer ?

Regarding the call log - there's no such option. Wrote it down to add.

Shimon... hello again! A former avid PALM takephoner, now droid inc and now happy to see takephone has come along so well. Love the invisible skin. Love it all.

Have two thoughts...

- Favorites. Maybe I haven't found it yet, but there doesn't seem to be a way to organize them. They appear in the order I added them. It would be great if I could assign favs to buttons (or just drag them to a position) OR, if that's not possible, maybe there could be in last name alpha order option.

- Top half of Find/Dial screen. I have to agree with the handful of folks who feel the top half is underutilized. Once I've read the three help screens, I'm done with that. The empty shaded bar is OK looking, but a missed opportunity. I really like a previous suggestion that the top half of the screen be a scrollable call log and, like the native dialer, the keypad drops away when you're into it (nice, but that last part is not necessary in my opinion). Having more than just the one last call shown would be quite helpful.

All from me for now. Thanks so much.
Jeff

Hi,

Welcome back !

Re. favs ordering - yet to add drag and drop, for now - long press on a button opens its details screen, there's a "Move" button there.

Re. FIND screen - will be adding the option to show call log. Will also consider removing the top search bar when search empty. That's a nice idea.

Thanks !

What does it mean according to your built-in dialer ?

Regarding the call log - there's no such option. Wrote it down to add.

I'm using the UltimateDroid 3.0.1 ROM (Gingerbread based), so I can't say that it uses the "stock" Android contacts app, but it seems to work similarly. This app includes a "Display options" setting dialog, where you have the following options:

  1. Only display contacts with phoine numbers (enable/disable)
  2. Choose conacts to display, with a check box for each group you have defined in your contacts
  3. sorting and display options based on last name and first name

Gmail has a nasty habit of populating your contacts list with anyone you ever send email to. You can optionally have these additions added to your "My Contacts" group as well (but I don't). Without filtering, these contacts all appear when searching contacts. In my case, these unwanted contacts accout for about 25% of my total contacts.

I was wondering if you have any idea what causes the constant crashes when I exit the app after a call. I send at least five reports per week to you, and they all say "exiting app after call" or something like that (yes, I am that person). If those do not help, I can stop bombarding you with them.

Anyway, I love the software, and as programmer/dev (not for android...yet) myself, I know how hard it can be to track down a bug, especially if not everyone experiences it. Then again, I write mainly scientific analytical software with little to tno GUI, so I may have it easier. :)

Anyway, just wanted to know if there was any lead on that.

Also., +1 to the multiple previous calls above the dialer.

AHH! The move option is perfect (once I figure out the numbering). Thanks.

Hi,

Sorry about this.

Would you be willing to help me debug this ? I would send you debug builds with logging to see where it crashes.

If yes - contact me at contact(at)shsh(dot)com

Also - when you say it crashes exiting after a call - can you details the scenario you are doing step by step ?

TIA
