ativ Q

No doubt this will get put in another forum but....hell do I want an ativ q....dual booting Windows 8 and android 4.2.2 (stock! No touchwiz) out the box with no restart required....thin, but has a built in keyboard, if an external cd drive works with it, I will be getting one as a laptop replacement!

Possibly not the best review, there are already plenty out there so do a search, otherwise....

I left a redirect so people will still see it. :)

Yeah, I'm interested, depending on the price.

So that would make it more expensive than the current Asus AIO, but Idk if there's a price on the upcoming TF Trio

1300 pounds is about $2000. I could get a kickass laptop and a kickass tablet for that.

I think Asus' 18 inch hybrid tablet is around 13 or 1400 dollars. I can't see a 13.3 inch going for 2000.

I'm going to make a prophecy and say $899.

does anyone know how android notifications will work on the device? I mean...if someone sends you a notification on the whatsapp android app...you wouldn't see it unless you were within the android operating system environment right? No chances of seeing it straight from the windows 8 start screen right ;P?

I've seen prices speculated up to $1,400US. Samsung would probably do well to pay attention to forums like this to see how to effectively price it. Anything below $1,000 will definitely catch my attention.

Also, I'm hearing different stories about the dual OS. Some say it will dual boot, others that it runs an android emulator under Windows 8. That makes a bit more sense if it's going to hot-switch but what do I know?

From what I've been reading its Android running in a VM in Windows. and they both utilize the same folder/directory for docs, photos etc which is why you can see the image on either Android or Windows on some of the videos floating around.

So if windows gets borked so does android? Or if android was having problems a simply factory reset would be impossible.

It will be interesting to see how those two live together.

If you go to their source, it takes you to the Taiwan site showing more images (just use Google Translate), you will see that although the Device itself is 3200 x 1800 resolution, the Android in the VM is 1900x1016.

Ahhh .. I guess that's the reason I've seen some reviews say Windows looks better than the Android side.

Apparently the Transformer Book Trio has an i7 processor instead of the i5 that the ativ Q. But it's running an intel atom processor for android. That certainly is interesting. I would really like to see a side by side comparison of these two devices. I wonder if stores like best buy would carry these.

The Trio has an i7 but if history is any indication, I am sure Samsung will come out with a pro version of the Q with an i7 as well.
While the Trio is nice, I didn't even bother putting it on my list of possible devices much like Lenovo or Sony with their N-Trig devices. The Samsung series has spoiled me with their S-Pen hands down.

Although I am sure that some sites will pair these two beasts against each other, most likely Lisa over at mobiletechreview.

I hope so. One thing that intrigues me is how they'll handle android os updates and what not if it's being run as a VM. I'm assuming it would be just like if you're running Linux within VirtualBox, right?

The Samsung ATIV Q was recently unveiled and is a particularly interesting upcoming convertible tablet, as it’s a hybrid dual-booting device featuring Windows 8 and Android Jelly Bean. It also has some very decent specs, and many people have been hoping for news on a US price. Now we have heard that Samsung ATIV Q orders have started in DE (Germany), and this offers us a US price estimate.

Samsung did not announced any pricing for the tablet/laptop when it was officially introduced, but the Samsung ATIV Q tablet is now available to pre-order in Germany with a price of €1599 at one retailer. That’s approximately US $2083 in a straight conversion, but as devices are often cheaper in the US it’s still thought that the likely price of the device stateside will be around the $1599 mark. Bear in mind though, that the German price may not be confirmed just yet, but hopefully it’s an indicator.- Phones Review

Don't think I would do $1599 for this. Maybe the top-of-the-line model with an i7, more storage, etc.

I was talking with Drex about this, it seems that the price can't really be converted due to the 20% VAT over there so basically you take that price times it by 1.2 and that would be the price approx of what it will cost in the US. which is about $1350 US dollars.

But like I told Drex, Samsung could make us all liers and overprice it here in the states.

if only there was a phone model too... then I definitely would get it to replace my Note 10.1 3G and Zenbook =) I just want to have a device with these three properties: an android tablet with a pen, win8 and a capable to make calls+net.

Knowing Samsung, that may just happen down the road. Regardless, the newer ATIV devices (like Ativ One 5 all-in-one, the Ativ Tab 3, and the Ativ Q) the will have the SideSync app that will allow you to have a virtual version of your phone in the screen thus making text messages (and I assume calls too).
See link
Only issue that I see is that both phone and ATIV device have to be connected via USB cable. Hopefully in a future update they will be able to do it wirelessly.
