Root ATK Application?

I've heard multiple views on this subject, but I can't find a definite answer to it. I realize that Android is a Linux-based system and doesn't handle memory the same way Windows-based systems do.

I'm undecided to install this application because I've read that it will reduce my battery life, and yet others say it will extend it.

Informed/honest opinions here? Thanks. :]

The best way to extend battery life with this phone is to root it, get Titanium Backup and freeze Metro WiFi. This app is constantly running, even with WiFi off. Freezing it brought my battery life from ~5 hours to ~12 hours. And since it's only frozen, if you need it you can always unfreeze it to access it again.

Like you I've seen stories go both ways with this phone and atk's, but Metro WiFi is one thing everyone has claimed as a battery killer and I agree. Give it a try and see if you see the same results.

I am rooted and I actually have a custom rom installed so that I could overclock. I've set up profiles but I have not gotten a solid answer about the ATK application.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is the purpose of titanium backup?

For me ATK is more of a convenience than anything. It kills the background stuff automatically and can be set to kill specific app and itself upon boot. Since it can be set to kill itself after the specified apps its not a battery killer.

I personally don't use it, I just kill my background apps myself. It's just not that big a deal for me. I did use it at one time , but uninstalled it.

As far as easy wifi goes I deleted the app for two reasons. First off I just don't like anything I can't totally control. Easy wifi can't be turned off and on by the user. The second reason is I feel the app itself is a waste, I can do the same thing myself and it's relatively easy imo.

Titanium backup creates and saves a backup of all you're apps and allows you to "freeze" apps running in the background that you would not normally be able to like Easy Wifi.

I hope this has helped, if it has don't forget to hit the thanks button.

It's a program that can backup user and system data as well as apks. It's useful for when you want to reinstall something without losing that important high score or settings that took forever to set up. It's also good for reverting to previous versions of apps that did nothing but put in ads with their latest update, provided you backed up the previous version.

The freeze/unfreeze utility is useful when you want to disable an app without completely deleting it. A frozen app cannot run by user or system means and is unavailable via the app drawer.

Easy-WiFi is supposed to be an app strictly for Metro to build a database of hot-spots where the user has connected, or so I've read. I'm pretty sure that it's a battery killer as well since it has to use GPS to transmit the information to Metro's database.

You would be correct, Easy Wifi constantly scans for hotspots then logs you into them automatically. Your phone does this automatically anyway when Wifi is turned on and it will log you into free hotspots when it comes across them.

The only real use Easy Wifi has is a map of those locations, which can easily be replaced with a free market app if it's that big a deal to you.

My personal preference as I said was to have control over my apps and when they run and when they don't.
