I'd get rid of ATK immediately. Task killers from what I understand do more harm than good. Android isn't the same as windows.

And no partition is needed in cm6..so you can free up that space on the card. Hope this helps.

Some apps or processes need to be running in order to receive notifications and things like that..

I use go launcher ex which shows you what apps are currently running right from the drawer.

Also if you're using an overclock app you can ditch it. Cm6 is overclocked to 710 already.

no task killers needed, it does more harm than good, but i had use smartbar when i had icarus a few months back and it was a good app, BTW what rom you current have flash?

cm6 is no longer immediately overclocked. you now need a cpu setter such as cpu boost.

If you really want to change what starts up, Try Android Assistant. I know I've wrote this a lot but, I really love this app. It's got a cache cleaner (Brings you to the clear cache option under applications, Lets clear each one), And it's also got a start up manager, File manager, and some other cool stuff. It's free as well. ^.^
