Help Atrix week one Data issue

Hello,
I love my Atrix but i have now had it 8 days and the first 7 days- used a total of 520MB, now i went on a trip to ohio and used it for a few hours and my data useage TODAY ALONE was 1.6 GB. I only did email and checked MLB scores, how the heck is that possible?

Also if i stay in US does it matter if i turn data roaming on or off, since ATT provides coverage in the entire country??

Roaming charges kicks in when your phone attempts to connect to the network and the AT&T network cannot be reached. The phone registers on the network that is serving the location you are located to provide "seamless" network connectivity. You can roam anywhere, even if AT&T provides service in the area but due to obstructions or other impedances your phone finds another service more accessible.

Do you use much wireless when you are at home? That may account for traffic being offloaded from the data connection.
