Help ATT GS3: What does the "Emergency call" button do?

Special K

Newbie
I recently enabled the screen password lock on my GS3 and now I see a button at the bottom of my lock screen called "Emergency call". After doing some searching on the web, I've found some stories indicating that certain phones will automatically dial 911 if you press this button.

Is this the case with the GS3, or does the Emergency call button just take you to the phone dialer, and you have to enter the number yourself? I was not able to find any specific mention of the GS3's Emergency call button behavior on the web.

I'd rather not just press the "Emergency call" button and then have to explain to a 911 dispatcher that I was just messing around on my phone.

Thanks ronbien and airtioteclint. It's good to know I can use a screen password without have to worry about accidentally dialing 911.
