att wifi terms of service

When the att wifi terms of service pop up I never accept.

Is att wifi free?

In the terms it says customer will be responsible for charges. Honestly I glanced at the terms and havent read them, but have been conditioned to always decline anything att such as navigation, where and others.
 
Yeah, I've been wondering about this too. The box the Captivate came in said something about free AT&T wifi hotspots, but when I was at the airport recently, it detected one, and when I went to use it, I got the same ToS you did, with some language about accepting charges where of course it did not specify what those might be. So I bailed too. The 3G service there was fine anyway, so I didn't really need it. I'm sure there are times when it would be nice to use it, but I'm paranoid about unintentionally signing up for something expensive. It really irks me that their terms make you accept responsibility for charges but don't say *anything* about what the charges actually are. So I don't use it.
 
I've not come across an AT&T wifi hotspot yet that actually charged. The TOS is just more of an "acceptable use" thing, saying basically "we're letting you use this for free as long as you don't do anything illegal. Otherwise we reserve the right to come after you".

What I have come across are AT&T hotspots that required going through that stupid web form, but the form didn't work using the Captivate's stock browser. I've had to spoof the user agent using Dolphin and pretend I'm an iPhone. Once I've accepted it though, everything works fine.

Would you be notified before singing on that the spot was not a free one?
 
i'm guessing that by "charges" they're referring to any pay sites that you might go to and use your credit card number. so because you're using their service for the internet, they're covering their bases saying you'll pay for the charges you make if you purchase stuff online.
