Attaching gamepad to hd station

Is it possible to use the USB connections on the HD station to connect a gamepad?

I tried plugging in an old Microsoft Sidewinder gamepad. The light came on but other than that, nothing. Tried a couple of games and none of the buttons or the D-pad did anything. Mouse and keyboard work great though, in both webtop and mirroring modes.
