Help Attachments in Gmail App?

I am guessing this is a user error issue on my part but for the life of me I have yet to figure this one out so excuse my ignorance if it is all me.

I can't figure out how to attach a document in the Gmail app but it only gives me the option to attach photos from my gallery and not anything else, for example an excel spreadsheet or pdf on my sd card. Can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong? Thanks in advance.

Download astro file manager. When u select attach it will give you the option to use astro and then just find the file you want
