Help Attempted Root

Earlier today I attempted to root my N3 and was not successful.

I downloaded Kingo.

I backed up everything on My N3 on Kies 3

I made that USB debugging was turned on

My phone was connected to my lap top and all that was left to do was click Root on Kingo. I attempted this procedure twice and failed each time.

I'm a newbie when it comes to rooting this is my first attempt.

I was thinking that the issue was with the firmware ??

like my baseband version ends in MJE and I'm thinking that in order for me to root the I'm trying to the baseband version needs to be MIE? LOL

I don't know any help would be wonderful!

Try a different version of Kingo - 1.2, 1.5 or 1.8 may work. I can't remember which version worked on MJE.

I'm trying to do all this by reading different threads and you tube. I've people root several different ways using different methods. What is the difference in 5 he methods people choose?

I discovered the kingo way and to me seemed the easiest. DL Kingo , back up device , open kingo and click *root* I've read things about having to download drivers and this and that. Use Odin and whatever else. Sometimes it all seems overwhelming

Why do you want to have root in the first place? It is a pertinent question you can do irretrievable damage rooting and once rooted to your device. While it is pretty rare to do so it will void your warranty and in itself does little to the phone. Having said that it does open a world of possibilities and gives you complete control of your device. I always root, although I have fewer reasons to do so than when I had my Samsung Galaxy SII.
It is overwhelming because there are many variations of what is a "Samsung Galaxy Note 3". My Note 3 is the international Qualcomm version for instance that will be quite different hardware and software version from say an AT&T model in the US.

It requires patients to find the correct procedure for your device and make sure you only use that procedure. To start make sure you know what model you have. From settings go to about phone and make a note for your model number. Then from the dialler type *#1234# and you'll get a screen like this :



Make sure you know these three lines. They are important in getting the correct version of firmware. Particularly the AP and CSC codes.
 
I want to root because i have heard many good things. I want to cause I feel like i'm barely using a portion of my phone now in its normal version. I want to be able to get every and all things my device has to offer!

Plus i really wanna see my droid dude wearing an eye patch!

I do know the model number and tried doing what mentioned (((( *#1234# )))) I'm assusming that i am supposed to hit dial after this and then get the screen you are showing captured. But was not able to do that aswell
 
Nope, on "non crippled by carrier" Samsung TouchWiz firmware enter *#1234# from the dialler without send/call and you'll get those details up. My guess is your Note 3 is heavily carrier branded. I'm led to believe that some carriers control the firmware and the over the air updates not Samsung.

Try Google with just your model number and see what comes up there. It may be that you have a locked bootloader making rooting harder if not impossible.
 
I had problems with kingo also I tried for hours and it kept failing.I was about to give up and on my last attempt I discovered that when you turn on Allow installing apps from unknown sources you also need to UNCHECK Verify Apps Block or warn before installing apps that my cause harm.After I unchecked that it worked like a charm.When Kingo roots you phone it has to install a SU app and I think that's why it failed for me.
 
@Dyno. I don't know if this may play a role in it. My Note 3 is a refurbished version sent to me via Verizon.

My Note I got in December , I started having troubles with charging. I contacted Verizon and they sent me a refurbished version. This did not fix my charging issuse's very seldom can i use the original charger. When i plug in the Samsung charger it says "For better charge , please original charger" I have two chargers provided by Verizon that I still have the same problems with.

To me that says that it is an issue with the device itself. What are the Odds of getting a new phone and then a refurbished phone as the supposed fix and yet still have the very same problems.

Anyone else experience this?

I tried what you suggested Corey and again had zero success. I may need to try what someone have suggested. Updating my Kingo.

Hi ZooCrazie, have a look at galaxynote3root.com tons of videos showing you how to root very simple to do. I rooted not long after getting the phone and am running the Bobcat Rom fantastic.

Yeah galaxynote3root.com has a great tutorial and also on YouTube droidmodderx.That is where I got my info and instructions.Now that I've thought about it, I think your problem is that stock Verizon MJE firmware isn't rootable.I think the only way to root MJE is to flash Beanstown modded MJE.tar with Odin then use Kingo to root.That is how I rooted my VzwNote3 if you follow one of those tutorial it should work.I actually have also a refurbished VzwNote3, I dropped and cracked my first screen.So there should be no problem rooting yours.You should definitely check those tutorials out.Im almost positive that if you use Odin to flash MJE.tar and then root with Kingo that you should have success.
 
Okay , so i went to GalaxyNote3Root.com - Learn How to Root Galaxy Note 3! I DownLoaded the following.

*Odin 3 v1.85

*Samsung Drivers

I'm a bit lost when it comes to " ClockworkMod/TWRP Recoveries ". There are several different DownLoads but I can't seem to find one for my Version **SM-N900V**

LOL.....Its obvious this is my first time. I'm starting to think that I should just quit before I screw something up?
 
You shouldnt need to download any drivers when you plug your phone to your computer they should automatically download. From what you've wrote in you 1st post you said that Kingo recognize you device so you should be good. If they weren't installed correct then you would have never seen the Root button show up. So if you wand to be sure just open Kingo and make sure that you can click the root button.


Here is a thread where you can get instructions and file (MJE.tar) that you will need to flash in Odin v.3.0.9. You want to do method 2, it will get you to a rootable Stock Vzw. 4.3 MJE firmware.

After you flash that in Odin and your phone reboots. Do the initial setup of your phone (sign in to your Samsung/Google/Email ect..) Go to settings "Check" install apps from unknown sources & "Uncheck" verify and block apps that my cause harm (that was where I had my problems).Then open Kingo Hit Root and if everything goes good then you should have gained root.

And here is a link to the only recovery that will work with Vzw.Note3 at this time. All you have to do is 1.) Download the Safestrap.apk (v3.65) 2.) Launch the app 3.) Hit install recovery 4.) Reboot and you should have a Rooted Vzw Note 3 w/Recovery Ready to flash some Rom's. I hope this helps you I tried to explain the best I could.

I feel I cannot help any more than I have tried to. Mine is the international SM-N9005 Note 3. We donot have carriers (networks) messing around with our bootloaders and firmware. Apart from adding some mostly unnecessary apps, here in the UK. Rooting, installing custom ROMs, Kernels and mods is far easier for us.

I hope you have it sorted by now ZooCrazie.
