Root attempted to root, now usb is dead

After doing some extensive google searching, i cannot not seem to find any related pages/posts with my issue. After attempting to root the phone, upon the first reboot, my USB no longer works. I can still charge the phone (Bionic, OS 4.1.2) . My computer can still understand the phone if i boot to fast boot, but with the phone properly booted up, i get a device not recognized notice on all computers, my car radio will not find the phone through the usb port, and the "USB Debug mode" indicator no longer pops up.

any ideas as to how i can fix this?

Has it ever gotten wet? has the SD card ever quit working? does it show as disk drive in My Computer?
I have a somewhat similar situation and not having usb sucks.
Does it ever work at all?

the usb port decided to start working again... and i rooted and it was fine for an additional week, then it completely died... It wouldn't link to anything or charge... i had the port replaced in the phone, the second port only worked on certain chargers and would not work with the usb port on the radio nor would link to the computer. The second port eventually finally died to the point that it would not charge... i had another USB port put in the phone and haven't had any problems since then.... So i'm blaming all of my issues in May on a bad USB charging port.
