ATTN: Handcent SMS Users

Is there a way to set it as the default program for sms? I tried to find some setting to set as such but have failed miserably so far. Every time I get a text I get a notification from handscent AND the stock messaging system which is slightly annoying

diable all the notifications in the stock messaging, recieving and sending, take it all off.

I can't seem to even find Handcent.... Searching "handcent" does not bring up any results

Menu-Messages-Settings-Received messages. - Uncheck notification upon received messages.
Then Handcent should be your only sms program that displays messages. I think

they having problems with the market soo you have to go to their website on your phone and click "news" download the app to the phone.

SMS Popup also works well. Allows custom notifications per contact. Customize ringtone, led color, vibration pattern. Was looking for something like Pre sms tone per contact and this works great. Do have to disable notifications in main phone settings.

Can someone explain to me why Handcent is such a "must have" app? I'm getting by just fine on the HTC messaging app, so I'm curious as to what all the fuss is about.

just a lot more customization .. set specific tones for certain ppl .. the way the notifications pop up etc

for me its the repeating tone for sms

at night i need my sms to wake me up for work..

if it beeps every minute i will hear it..

for me its a must have... just for that.. for now i have all the pops and alerts for handcent off.. you can still us the default sms..

I like the color customization of the message lists and the conversation window. Along with the tones for message from specific contacts. Also in previous phones (Hero) the stock message app got insanely laggy if you had 1000+ messages in one conversation! It would take forever trying to load the entire conversation before you could even type out a reply!

It's not just the Hero, the EVO has lag viewing multiple threads within one contact as well.
