Attn: Leakers (OTA'd or not) and 1.5 > OTA'ers)

Usually, the HBOOT is upgraded to prevent exploits that Root the phone, or tamper with it otherwise.

If the HBOOT works, it works just fine. If there are no problems with it, it has ALMOST NOTHING to do with the normal functioning of the phone. It's just a bootloader.

Historically, they upgrade the Recovery.img or HBOOT to prevent exploits that are found to Root phones. The Incredible already got a new Recovery.img update (unannounced) after someone found an exploit with another phone that would possibly work on the Incredible.

It's the HTC/Verizon thing. Verizon wants these phones L O C K ED D O W N. They and Sprint are ridiculous about it.

With the nature of the update it would make since the the boot loader is not touched. This may have been over looked in the quest to have the OTA not wipe user settings and apps.

With the leaks we ran a full OS reload, HBOOT included. I will wager that the file posted on PCD will bee a full blown reload and may indeed bump the HBOOT version up. The OTA is simply a script replacing files and not a complete ROM rewrite. It in fact is using the boot loader to facilitate the process. Interesting that they let it go that way. I suppose it was more important to reduce files size and call center traffic.

so have we come to the conclusion that if we have leaked 2.1v3 on our phones whether or not we are getting the update ota, because ithought someone had read on verizons tweeter page that the people that installed the leak versions 1 2 and 3 will still get the ota

i believe someone stated that the person on VZW's Twitter page told them that no matter what leak they were on they would get an OTA upgrade. so, take that with a few grains of salt.

FYI, the RUU's (not the OTA's) for MR1 and MR2 included hboot 1.47. So I think that might explain why some coming from Android 1.5 have hboot 1.47, and some have 1.46. It's also possible that they started flashing MR1 or MR2 at the factory at some point, so newer phones might have come with hboot 1.47 already built in, while the original batches of phones had 1.46.

Yes. From reading the OTA installation thread that seems to be the case. 1.47 does seem to correspond to newer phones.
I got mine in November and have 1.46

I am on leak v2, and I understand it is not known whether I will get OTA, but my question is this... If by some miracle I do get the OTA, then would the bootloader stay at 1.49 or would it switch back to 1.47?

So then as of now, is PCD the only hope for leakers?
