Audio quality with mp4 video conversion

I am using handbrake to convert DVDs to mp4 format. I am leaving all settings default.

My question is, what are the recommended audio set up changes to optimize the audio when converted. I mainly use headphones when watching a converted movie and it seems like I have to crank the volume up during the talking scenes and back it down during the action scenes.

The overall audio is not near as loud as any games I have downloaded also. Is this to be expected with a converted movie? Thanks for any input.

I'm just starting to convert some movies using DVD Catalyst. I'm doing a 3rd conversion right now, so all three will have different settings so I might have better input in the near future.

So I guess I will suggest doing the same. Convert a few movies with different settings and see what configuration works best.
