Help auto brightness

Can someone recommend a good auto brightness control application or widget? I would like to have 100% brightness when I am outside. When I am indoors, I would like to automatically dim the screen according to its surroundings. I have tried many applications but none of them seem to work for me. None of them would go up to 100% when I am outside. When I wake up at night, it is too bright.

Press MENU while on the Home Screen, then Settings, then Display, then brightness, and Check "Automatic brightness".
(MENU>>Settings>> Display>>Brightness>> Automatic Brightness is checked.)

That was the first thing I tried. But it did not work for me. When it was bright outside, my Evo 4G was too dim to see. When it was dark inside, the screen was way too bright.

Can this be further customized? Thanks.

yeah... whats wrong with the built in auto brightness.... on your evo???

Its range is not wide enough. If I set the brightness to 100%, bring it outside and it is bright there, and then set the auto brightness on, I can see that it actually dim the display. Then I have a hard time to read the display as it is too dark.

yeah... i see your point... i agree...
the builtin auto feature...

does not go dark enough in total darkness
and not bright enough out in the sun.

a dev should pick this up.. and can make some $$$ with an app in the market.

How can a screen not go dark enough in darkness? Makes no sense and I'm sure the auto brightness feature is based off of its sensor. An app can't fix autobrightness. If you have trouble viewing the phone in sunlight then buy an anti-glare screen protector. I can see my screen just fine under the hot ass sun in Texas.

reading online.. the screen is too bright....

or when i am asleep.. the phone rings.. or get text..
i turn it on... and it is too bright... kind of hurts the eyes for a few seconds as my eye adjust.

i can set the phone to 10% brightness... and it is perfect for the dark... so the auto brightness is set to some higher setting.. my guess is 30%

Once again, anti-glare screen protector for the phone. It's just like tint for windows on a car. Even flat screen tvs have the same problem when sunlight hits the screen. So what's the complaint about cell phones?.....anti-glare screen protector. That's what it was created for.

Evulution, you seem to miss the point. If I set the display at 100%, I can see the displayed messages okay in the California sun too. But if I turn on the auto brightness feature, it will actually dim the display and make it harder to see.

The display brightness can be set from 0 to 255, with 0 being completely dark and 255 being 100% brightness. So the developers can read the light sensor and then set the brightness value. I don't understand why they don't set the brightness level correctly though.

And I'm telling you my phone is always on AUTO BRIGHTNESS and when I go out into the sun my phone doesn't have any problems with an anti-glare screen protector on. There is 2 people complaining in this thread compared to the masses with this phone. That should say something.
