auto dialing contact shortcut

newbie to the S4 - on my Razr I could set up a shortcut on my home page which when tapped automatically dialed the number without an extra step. Can this be done on the S4?

Thanks.

Long-press a blank spot. Shortcuts. Direct dial. Choose the number you want that icon to dial.

That's what I tried but the drop down menu options, after long pressing a blank spot on the home screen, are Set wallpaper, Apps and widgets, Folder and Pages. No shortcuts or direct dial options. I must be missing something

You'll find "Direct Dial" under the widgets.
Long press blank spot on home screen > widgets > direct dial. It will then ask you which contact you want to use, if that contact has more than one phone number it will ask you which one to use.
A similar process works for Direct Message, for those folks whom you often text.
