Root Auto Killer Preferences

I don't think Piiman's points are wrong, so lets stop the bickering he just has more faith in the OS than some of us. It is likely that this app can cause more harm than solves for MOST people, because most people do not understand how to use it or how the android OS works. However that does not mean it is a bad app, it just depends on how and why you are using it. I think the point he is making is that unused memory in an android system tends to be a bad thing. But again it all depends on your usage. At some point if you won't be using the apps loaded into memory, then you may as well remove them so that the next app will not cause the OS to do so that a new app can run thus making things run smoother.

I do wonder how a dev would decide how to change these settings to cater to the tweaks of their Roms. That would take allot of testing I would think... Or maybe they just played with it until it seemed best.

That is basically how I look at it.

I think part of the problem is that there are so many variables when comparing one persons phone to the next, that no two are really the same, especially when you're talking about rooted phones. Yes they have the available memory set at around 50MB but as someone else suggested if unused memory is a waste why is it not set lower or at zero? Apparently some free memory is needed. I feel that 50MB is a starting point where most phones will work without experiencing any hiccups but others may require more free memory.

Just download it from the market, go to your app draw and open it. Hit the menu button to set presents or to learn a little more about the settings

"The fact is you all think more free memory equals more memory the system will use to speed up things and that isn't true.

I challenge you to find me something that says otherwise."

So why will my phone benchmark higher with more free memory? Why will my phone run Dungeon Hunter and Angry Birds smoother with more memory free? If they lag, open ATK, kill everything, restart app and smooth as silk.

atk and autokiller are two totally different things. Killing all apps at once is NOT a good thing and if something like that helps you than you should take a look at what apps you have on your phone. Autokiller completely elimnates the need for a "kill" switch becuase it keeps the memory free my limiting how long apps can stay in the background, not by running thru the system with a machete.

I agree that autokiller is better than atk's but if someone is still running 2.1and doesn't want to root atk's aren't bad, AS LONG AS THEY ARE SETUP PROPERLY. I don't get why everyone commenting against atks keep saying its an app your running (in some cases it may be) when people have these problems without having any apps installed.

It's also funny how some people who are against autokiller are running roms that increase the memory settings just as autokiller does so they have "wasted memory" like the rest of us using autokiller. It's really funny to think that they could use the program they hate to get back the stock settings that their roms did away with, or better yet set it so that they can use all the memory that the stock settings "waste"

I've been a JuiceDefender Ultimate user for several months so went on its recommendation for AutoKiller. I've used ATK and Fast Reboot previously but they did not help for the long term and from what i've read can actually hurt performance.

I've noticed that when my memory gets below 40MB free, the phone will feel slugglish. Since installing AutoKiller, JuiceDefender reports that my battery life has increased from x1.7 to x1.9 and the phone is no longer slugglish.

Some can argue all they want that AutoKiller doesn't help, but I can say with all confidence, it works for me.

My settings on Aggressive (82,90,98). Any other input on what works for you?
