Help auto rotating flaky

Anyone else having issues with the phone auto rotating ??? Mine seems flaky, and only works some of the time, doesnt matter the app. its hit and miss.

So it just will NEVER rotate no matter how long you let it sit? Or does it just take longer than normal?

BTW, the longer delay in rotating is a "feature" in ICS to avoid inadvertent rotation. I'm sure custom ROMs will tweak this value and allow you to control it if the problem is just that it's not as responsive as you're used to in Gingerbread.
 
Yea, its just not as responsive. It rotates. Usually. Sometimes though it just sits there and wont rotate though...but if i shake it, rotate it around, it usually goes.

Hmm I haven't noticed it NOT rotating, though I can't say I've been looking for it. Does it happen more frequently in certain apps or after doing certain things? E.g. after opening a new tab in the browser or something? Can you reliably reproduce the "doesn't rotate" problem? I think the slowness to rotate is by design as I said, so unless google decides to make it a configurable option, a custom ROM may be your only option. :(
 
I cant reliaby dupe it. Happens in the few apps ive used so far, chat, web, email. Doesnt happen all the time. Some times it goes right away, other times, it goes slow, and sometimes....not at all. But my phones only been active for a day, so ill need more time to see if I can reliably repoduce it.
 
Yeah, it is a little slow by default in ICS, but it's intentional as jkc120 said. But I think it should natively be user-adjustable in the display settings. I would rather it be more responsive even if it meant accidental rotations every once in a while. Pretty much like the iPhone where it's almost instant because even if it did inadvertently rotate, then it would recover a lot quicker too.

I'm surprised some ROM devs haven't provided a setting for this in a lot of the popular ROMs too.

Mine recently started doing the same thing. I need to tap it on a table sometimes to get it to rotate.
 
Check the camera/video/panorama icons in the Camera app to verify it isn't a hardware defect. If they rotate quickly and smoothly you know it's something happening in the software.
 
works fine for me.

i know many are "up in arms" that it takes 2 seconds to change orientation, but i don't see it as an issue. probably be quicker after 4.0.3 anyway.


however, if yours is malfunctioning, the culprit is almost certainly an app you downloaded. none, even the supposedly "optimized for ICS" ones actually work 100% with the GN.
