Help Auto screen brightness?

Much as I love my DHD the auto brightness is annoying me.
99.9% of the time it's absolutely fine but it won't drop to the lowest brightness setting when it's completely dark.

I do a lot of night fishing, and it's frustrating to pull your phone out and instantly have your retinas burned out before getting chance to manually drop brightness to minimum.

Is there a way around this?

Cheers,

Chris

The first thing I thought of would be to use anther app like Tasker to set the phone to have the lowest brightness between certain hours of the day (or night as it actually is)...

Turn auto brightness off?

Or use a brightness widget so you can choose the level you want, I've got the stock HTC one on mine, does the job just fine :)

Honestly I have my brightness on my phone (galaxy s2) all the way down. if it's a little too dark to see in the sunlight I kick it up a notch

Thanks all, I know it sounds ridiculous and, yes, I could just do it manually but the auto brightness works very, very well most of the time. It's just frustrating that it won't drop to minimum when it's dark.

The timer thing is a good idea but it will only annoy me when I'm squinting to see it indoors!

iPhone seems to manage it (but little else) so it bugs me that the htc can't.
Just wondered if I was missing something obvious but seems I'm not

Cheers,

Chris
