Recently, my phone will suddenly shut down by itself. I tried pressing the power and home button but to no avail. It will only turn on back when i take out the battery and put it back again. Why is this so?

I'm experiencing the same problem. I just find it turned off. Initially thinking it's on power save mode, I try the main button and then power button with no result. I had to take out the battery as well to get it to turn on.

I searched the net and found other people with similar experience.

Any fixes yet from Samsung?

Overhere the same. Got the phone for 2 weeks now.
Did anyone try something like resetting to default?

It seems to happen when someone makes a call to the phone.
Phone won't ring and turn off immediatly......

can you guys try a temporary workaround:
Set the wifi to sleep when not needed. ie to stop when the screen is off.

ok , I got back my mobile , the customer service representative told me "we have fixed the problem" but he didn't tell me more details.

mobile is working fine till now .

Read something about 'Sleep Of Death' (SOD). It seems to happen a lot with Android devices. Cause is (saddly) unknown.

I have installed Kies from Samsung and it tells me that i have the latest firmware (yeah right)......

So if some Samsung Guru has the answer.........:)
For now it's Acenoying;)

It is the Wi-Fi sleep policy that is causing the phone to go into shutdown. The sleep policy suppose to switch back to mobile data (3G) when screen lock so as to conserve power.

So go to Setting->Wirelss and Network->Wi-Fi setting->Advanced (edit button) -> Wi-Fi sleep policy -> Choose "Never"

Or switch off Wi-Fi if you don't need at all if you have a 12GB data plan.

It works for me now, no more "deep" sleep mode for me.

Hope this helps!

Hi guys .. I've checked my setting of wifi sleep mode which is already "NEVER" but my cell still getting the same problem " Auto Shut Down" .... can any 1 tell me pls what samsung service center told u about this prob ? thnx

yeah i read you guys posts about 5 days ago turn the auto wireless off, off. and the problem still persists it happens at least once a day, im glad im not the only one experiencing this problem.

I have the same problem, but I'm using a Galaxy Gio. Latest firmware installed via Kies.

I first thought it's a hardware problem, cause I needed to take out the battery and reinsert it, but you guys say it's an Android-thing. Anyway, I've just set WiFi sleep to never, and I hope it resolves the problem. :(

I am sure it happened with my phone when some1 called me.
I know of two situations that this happened.

Any1 the same suspicions?

It is from a thread in one of the Andriod Forum, you may check to ensure if you have the Build number FROYO.DXKC1 , Android version 2.2.1 installed. My Samsung ACE is running like a war horse....Go to the Android Market and install a app called Android Booster, and it could very well cure your problem by optimizing and closing unwanted apps running in the background....

also having this problem i have changed my wifi settings to never and will see if the problem persists thanks

Unfortunately, the phone went into sleep of death again today despite WiFi thing set to Never. :(:(:(

God, this a deal-breaker for me.

Should we contact Samsung? Are you sure it's an android thing, not specifically related to Samsung?

I had the same problem. It would happen to my phone everytime i would leave it
connected to wifi. What i did to fix it was by disabling "use packet data" from wireless and networks from settings. Never had the problem since :)

I wouldn't call this a smart solution, as this way you'll never be able to access the internet over mobile network.

Err.. you can use it when you enable it again.. you could do that anytime you wanna use it.. saves battery..
plus thanks for the Wifi solution.. it worked ;)

this isnt any good for me, i use my phone at work to stream internet radio stations to my speakers ;D) i dont really wanna have to keep turning shit on and off as well. samsung should recognize this problem and address it.
