Auto start question

Is there any way to prevent certain apps from restarting after close? For instance, the Facebook app will restart its self even though I didnt initiate it. I know I could go with an autokill app, but that will just waste further resources as it would have to perform the kill tasks about every 20 seconds.

Is there a setting somewhere that will set these apps to only run if theyre called on by me, the user. Im getting tired of clearing them from the running apps list just to have them show up in it again in a matter of seconds.

Im being a little picky I guess seeing as I have a gig of RAM to work with, but I hate seeing apps wasting RAM that I didnt open.

EDIT: I am rooted and have removed the apps that do this that I never use and that are safe to remove. However, FB, Google maps, for example, I want, but dont want them running if I didnt open the app, ever.

Let android manage its memory. Android is doing what its supposed to do. It likes to allocate all its memory to the apps that you use the most but just because an app is showing as in memory, doesnt mean its actually running. Android will kill an app and reallocate that memory to something else if it needs it.

If you start killing apps, Android will just work overtime to undo what you just did, which means more battery is killed and performance is wasted. Just let it do its job. Its better at memory management than we are.

Just to clarify, by in memory I mean that these apps show up in the "running apps" menu. I understand that if looking into the memory there may be a prefetch thing going on, but Android says the apps are running in the running apps menu.

If thats what you meant too then Ill disregard them then.

anything in memory is considered to be running but thats not necessarily true. I would ignore them and only kill apps that you know are going rogue and killing battery (or eating data). Facebook is one such app and so is Skype.

I totally agree. I think people go OCD and feel like they need to close anything they're not using (a habit from Windows, possibly?) but Android doesn't work that way. The only time I'd say killing all unused apps is necessary would be when you're about to play a game that consumes a lot of memory/processing. For me, I need to either restart my phone or clear the RAM before I play Grand Theft Auto III, otherwise, it won't play smoothly and sometimes even restarts during play.
