Auto Sync Question

I have turned off Auto-Sync (from the Power Management widget) but I've noticed that some other widgets like Facebook, twitter, etc. have updated regardless (they are set to update every couple of hours).

So what does Auto-Sync actually do? Does it simply overide your chosen sync times and sync whenever, or does it only apply to certain apps?

auto sync is for the default phone apps, other apps manage their own syncing. Not sure what auto sync that app turns off, but you can do this via phone settings anyway.
