So I noticed my new Note 2 would automatically connect to any nearby att hotspot, whether it was a good connection or not. Like last night at a restaurant with a starbucks nearby. I was too far away for a meaningful connection, but close enough for a signal that made the phone connect automatically. I finally dug in enough and found a check box under wifi advanced settings that allowed me to uncheck the auto connect for this. Hopefully someone will find this helpful, I was unhappy with it because I dont like to connect to any public wifi spots if I can help it.

Autoconnect to ATT hotspot

You can turn it off. I did. I don't remember the exactly which app, but I think it is something like AT&T smart hotspot or something. I don't like the auto connect because it would start to connect to some local WiFi when I am stopped at a traffic light and my streaming music would cut off when I moved out of WiFi range. There is no reason to auto connect other than saving AT&T 4G bandwidth, and since I have unlimited data, there is absolutely no reason for me to have it on.
I think it is 5Gb for LTE. I am not even remotely close to it. The last 30 days I used about 2Gb.
Is there are Data Charge for the ATT Wifi? And while I am at it LTE seems to draw so much more GBs. I did a few speedtests on the phone when Comcast cable was down and in 5 minutes I used more data than I did with my Blackberry on VZW 3G in a month. So, how do you shut things off on the Note 2 so you know they aren't running if you forget you are on LTE.
