Help Autocorrect for SMS?

Ok, former iPhone user here. I'm missing my auto correct feature. I found something in the settings that I thought was it, but it's beyond annoying. It pulls up a bubble after I type the first letter with suggestions. This is awful. I don't need a word suggester for every single letter I type.

I'm moreso looking for a way to enable auto-correct. As in, if you misspell something then it suggests an option that you can select or ignore. Also, the annoying bubble suggester won't go away even after I turned it off.

Any help = much appreciated, total n00b here.

update,

under "language & keyboards > android keyboard" I have disabled "show suggestions" and "auto complete". I even rebooted. But there is still a stupid bubble that pops up the moment I enter a single letter.

This makes it hard to do much of anything involving typing. Help :(

I think I somehow had "swype" enabled, even though it was letting me type normally. It's evidently a worthless feature called "word prediction" and it starts the moment you start typing, effectively blocking your ability to see what you're doing. Perhaps I need to figure out how to turn off Swype and get back to the regular keyboard and then re-enable the other setting....

Ok, so I got rid of this bubble, but there seems to be no form of auto correct or spell check. Is there a 3rd party plugin I need or something? The keys are smaller than the iPhone and I'm making all kinds of typos. Even with "show suggestions" and "auto complete" on I'm having a majorly difficult time spelling words right and stuff like "dont" isn't getting an apostrophe. So it's taking me 3 times longer than normal to text, tweet, update status, etc. because I'm having a hard time typing, and Android isn't helping me out with spelling fixes or suggestions.

Browse the market. There are tons of keyboard apps on the market. I tried many, but "Swift keyboard" is my favorite. It has everything, auto complete, auto fix, world suggestion that learns. (pretty useful if you sometimes type in other languages). I don't know about iPhone keyboard but when I tried typing on it once I had difficulties. I think it's just a matter of habit.

Thanks for the info, Swift keyboard looks like it's what I'm after. One problem though, how do you activate it?

According to some online instructions I should have something called "input method" under "language & keyboard settings", but... I don't.

I just have:

select language
swype
android keyboard
swiftkey trial (checked)
swiftkey trial settings
user dictionary

Where can I set the input method to actually use the Swift keyboard?

thanks

snap, did some searching, there is no "input method" on the OPtimus M for some reason, but if you "click and hold" in a type box the option will come up.

w00t!
