Root [Avail] To Install New Rom

Android Enthusiast
I'm confused on this process. I have been fallowing instructions the best I can from this thread but I am lost at installing the zip file. This is my post in that thread:

OK. I got to this point. I did have to change a few commands to get root but it seems to be working.
------------------------------------

TO INSTALL NEW ROM

If you want a really cool version of gingerbread (or I think it is) on your stock Straight Talk ZTE Merit (with the bottom scrolling thing, ability to overclock with overclock program included, and of course get rid of that tracfone startup screen and music and replace with a much more appealing and silent att android splash/startup...put the file named "one.three.zip" on the root of your sd card (same way you did the Recovery.img).

Next, open up command prompt and type

  • adb shell
  • press "enter"
  • reboot recovery
  • press "enter"

It should reboot into recovery, use side buttons to navigate to "install zip" and then choose zip to install and navigate to the option to install one.three. It will take around 5-10 minutes to do this. After it's done, it will tell you it's successful and you will be able to scroll up and down the menu with the navigation keys on the side of the phone. Just press the back arrow key, navigate to "restart" and the phone should restart with ZTE star logo then switch to the AT&T think possible logo and then an animated "Android" logo. It may stay here up to ten minutes during the first boot.

You're good to go, enjoy exploring!
My question is this command. Is it saying the command should be "
flash_image recovery /sdcard/one.three.zip
"? I ran this command from the folder I had the zip file in. The phone will no longer load into recovery instead it gets frozen at the splash screen"ZTE". It takes several battery pulls to get it to restart.

Can someone give me the steps & commands to fix my mistakes?

Forgot to say this was after changing directories to "su". I guess it is the same as changing directory.

Thanks for any help.

Is that ROM Manger or is there another app I'm not finding? I ended up using Titanium Backup because ROM Manger was confusing me so I don't even know if I have my stock room backed up for sure.

Are you telling me to flash from the inside the OS with a app or from cmd? I can't back to reboot recovery.

I flashed recovery again & it works again. I can go to the recovery screen. Still not able to get flash_image recovery /sdcard/one.three.zip to work.

I'm getting "error opening
flash_image recovery /sdcard/one.three.zip: no such file or directory".

Enter recovery mode (volume up + menu + power)
select install zip from sdcard
go down to one.three and select it
let it load
reboot the phone.

Wow. You guys are great. You have been a lot of help & I'm thankful.

Here is where I'm at. My zip was coruped so I downloaded a new file & transfered it by usb storage. Used CWM 5.0.---- to install the zip. I'm running the new ROM & learning my way around it.

Seen on other post that the system needs cleaned up now. What do I need to deleate & from where or do I just need to run reboot recovery again? If recovey then do I need to run clear catch or factory reset?

I'm sorry about being so dumb with all of this & hope I'm asking the right questions. I just seen my first Android 2 weeks ago when I bought this phone & don't know enough about the system to know what to ask. I'm learning as I go & it is like learning to fly in the dark with your instructor over the radio.

But if you are using link2sd, you will need to relink all the apps. Because of the tiny app space, the phone wigs out when you first boot until they are all linked. Gives low memory errors. I had to link some, rebpot , link some more, reboot, repeat until done. Pain in the arse.

I haven't done a link to sd yet. So whipe cache & good to go?

Moving apps to sd was my next question to start researching.

I did the one.three ROM signal showes half what it did but seem to actualy be as good or a bit better. I'll know more after using it for a few days. It is also eating the battery like crazy now. It was already hard on the battery but now I get 4 hours or less on a full charge. Any suggestions?

OK. I will give it some time to learn then.

can the stock apps in one.three be removed. there is still junk in this one I don't like.

How do I use ES File Explorer to remove them?

Also I got the Link2sd app but had to partition the SD to use it. Now the apps I had on the SD Are showed in dark gray but there is nothing I can do with them. How do I fix that problem?

I didn't figure out ES so I used Root Uninstall. It worked great but there is still a few I csn't find. They are in the app list but none of the other apps show them. it is things like lataude.

I reinstalled the apps that looked broken after the partition.

Latitude is linked/connected to Maps. If Maps is deleted, then Latitude is useless. The same thing happens if you freeze Maps.
