Root [Avail] Zte Avail root help

After flashing the t-card update and downloading Superuser app, when you tap to update, Superuser put its in /bin. On the z990, that's where the most current binary is located. The z990g is probably different in that respect as well.

I have an AT&T Avail ZTE Z990. I am wanting to root the phone in hopes of gaining more internal memory and removing the AT&T apps that I don't use. I would also like to move other apps to the SD card. I want to make sure that I'm doing this right as I have read about a lot of people "BRICKING" their phones. So I have turned to this forum for help. I purchased my phone back in January and used the AT&T service until the first of this month when I bought a SIM card kit from Straight Talk. I have downloaded the Avail T-Card zip file. This is as far as I've made it. Is anyone willing to maybe give me a walkthrough from here??? I would greatly appreciate it.

Get a file manager, like ES, on your SD card create a folder "image". Put the t-card zip in it. Go to setting of phone, about phone, check for updates, OK. Let it process, when its rebooted, go to dialer and enter *983*7668#. Don't hit the green button. Near the bottom of the screen it should say "wait some time for root", or similar. Then dl Superuser app from Play Store. In that app, tap to update. You're ROOTED. :)

They must have patched that as it did nothing when I put the code in but sit at the dialer and the screen went to sleep.

However the step regarding SU wasn't needed. It gave me not found errors, and I just rebooted the phone and got the adb root prompt after (#) and I flashed CWM and ROM flashed and it was done.

I've rooted many various Android phones, tablets and MP3 players, and haven't bricked a device yet.

Superuser wrong work without its binary file. You got it when you used a recovery that already had it in there. Without su you don't have root on the Merit. I don't know how the dailer codes work.

The dialer codes are forr the avail only. Not the merit. Ithink it has something to do with avail being 2.3.4 and merit 2.3.5.

I know that but I did get the adb to give a root prompt which allowed me to flash CWM to begin with. I then flashed the rooted stock rom to overcome the issue of the not found error in adb. After a failed attempt at one.three of course.
